Steelers place Le’Veon Bell on IR, sign Pead

The Steelers officially placed running back Le’Veon Bell on the season-ending injured reserve list Monday, a day after he injured his knee in a loss to the Bengals.

Bell totaled 556 rushing yards on 113 carries with three touchdowns in six games this season. He also had 24 receptions for 136 yards. He missed the first two games due to an NFL suspension stemming from a 2014 marijuana-related arrest.

Bell was second in the NFL in rushing and in all-purpose yards last season and was a key cog in the Steelers’ No. 1 ranked offense in 2014.

Veteran DeAngelo Williams takes over as the Steelers’ starting running back.

Running back Isaiah Pead was added to the roster with Bell out. Pead was cut in September by the Rams after a little over three seasons there, mostly as a backup.
