Grigson-Pagano feud triggers players-only meeting

Usually, a team conducts a players-only meeting because of issues relating to the performance of the players. In Indianapolis, the Colts reportedly had a player-only session due to problems between the coaching staff and front office.

Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star, citing multiple unnamed players, reports the meeting occurred last week, with players urged to ignore distractions arising from the conflict between coach Chuck Pagano and G.M. Ryan Grigson.

Holder reports that the players claim the front office has made lineup changes, something that the coaching staff ordinarily handles. The players also are concerned about the endless speculation about Pagano’s future -- something neither the front office nor owner Jim Irsay has done anything to end.

The decision to leak the news of the players-only meeting could also be the latest move in the broader chess match between Grigson and Pagano, with Pagano now having even more cover for another bad performance, if the Colts get blown out by the Broncos on Sunday night.

The question then becomes whether Irsay will blow out Pagano, Grigson, or both on Monday.
