After cornerback Tim Jennings was released by the Bears at the end of August, it didn’t take him long to land in Tampa.
It was a logical landing spot for Jennings, who played several seasons for Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith when both men were in Chicago. The second time around didn’t go as well and won’t last as long.
Jennings was released on Monday by the Bucs as they opened up a roster spot for tackle Demar Dotson, who was activated from injured reserve. Jennings made six appearances and three starts for the Bucs, making 17 tackles and recovering a fumble in those outings. The 31-year-old may catch on elsewhere as corner are always in demand, but falling out of favor on a team coached by Smith in a defense he knows well doesn’t bode well for his future.
Dotson injured his MCL in the preseason and was placed on injured reserve with the designation to return. He was pushing for a new contract before getting hurt and his chances of getting one should improve if he can provide the team with an upgrade on Gosder Cherilus at right tackle.
