A quad injury kept Nick Folk from kicking for the Jets last Sunday and was going to keep him out for the next few weeks as well, leaving the Jets with a choice to cut someone else to make room for another kicker or drop the curtain on Folk’s season by placing him on injured reserve.
The Jets chose option No. 2 on Tuesday. The team announced that Folk has been placed on injured reserve and that they signed Randy Bullock to take over the kicking duties.
Bullock, who tried out for the team on Monday along with several other kickers, has been out of work since being dropped by the Texans late in September. Bullock was released after missing two kicks against the Buccaneers in Week Three and also missed an extra point in the season opener. He spent the previous two seasons with Houston and has made 80.3 percent of his field goals overall.
Folk is signed through 2017 and was having a good season, so he’ll likely be back with the Jets come 2016.
