With Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford suffering a concussion and a left shoulder injury, reportedly an AC joint sprain, in Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins, chances are good that he’s going to miss the team’s Week 11 game against the Buccaneers.
The Eagles are then scheduled to be in Detroit on Thanksgiving and the quick turnaround would make it hard for Bradford to return to the lineup in Week 12, which would leave the Eagles to hand the job over to Mark Sanchez. On Monday, coach Chip Kelly wouldn’t say whether that’s the plan for the week but did say he’s comfortable with Sanchez running the offense.
“I feel very confident in Mark Sanchez,” Kelly said, via Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News.
Sanchez was 14-of-23 for 156 yards in relief against Miami and threw an interception in the end zone that stopped the team from retaking the lead in the fourth quarter. Kelly said Sanchez “probably shouldn’t have thrown the ball,” but painful as that was a slew of penalties on offense and special teams blunders loomed large in the loss as well.
Given the overall performance on offense this season, avoiding those kinds of errors will be essential for the Eagles regardless of who is starting at quarterback because the NFC East remains well within reach for the Eagles with seven games to play.
