Chip Kelly hasn’t considered benching Sanchez

After a blowout loss at home to a team that won two games last year, Eagles coach Chip Kelly answered questions about the performance of backup quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Specifically, Kelly was asked whether he considered at any point putting Sanchez’s backup, Thad Lewis, on the field.

“I mean, it was the first game Mark really played for us [this year],” Kelly told reporters. “He came in at the tail end of the game last week against Miami, but that thought did not cross my mind, no.”

That thought may cross Kelly’s mind in Detroit on Thursday, if the Eagles struggle once again. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, it’s unlikely at this point that starter Sam Bradford will be back so soon. He remains in the concussion protocol, and the source says Bradford is still experiencing concussion symptoms. (Bradford also has a separated non-throwing shoulder.)

Sanchez threw three interceptions on Sunday in the 45-17 defeat, an ugly follow-up to last week’s home loss to the Dolphins.

It’ll only get uglier in the aftermath of an embarrassing loss to Tampa. And it may only be a matter of time for Eagles fans to no longer worry about the Titans trying to persuade the team to let Kelly reunite with Marcus Mariota.

Eagles fans eventually may be wishing for it.
