Texans down two corners, up 10-3

The Texans opened play on Sunday without one starting cornerback and they saw their other one leave the game in the second quarter.

Johnathan Joseph hurt his knee and the Texans are calling his return questionable. With Kareem Jackson ruled out during the week due to an ankle injury, that left the Texans thin on cornerbacks even before A.J. Bouye also left the game against the Jets. Bouye returned to the locker room after being shaken up on a Ryan Fitzpatrick scramble.

The Jets weren’t able to take advantage of the absences as Fitzpatrick’s gain was wiped out by a holding penalty and they punted a couple of plays later. Fitzpatrick also lost control of the ball on Brian Cushing’s tackle, which goes with his surgically-repaired left thumb as a reminder of why he should slide to the turf on at least some of his runs in the future.

The Jets have a full complement of corners available, but that didn’t help them on a deep pass from T.J. Yates to DeAndre Hopkins in the second quarter. Hopkins ran by Darrelle Revis and found no safety help over the top on what turned into a 61-yard touchdown that gave the Texans a 10-3 lead.

UPDATE 2:07 p.m. ET: Joseph has returned to action, but Bouye is being evaluated for concussion.
