When last we heard from former NFL receiver Plaxico Burress, he was trolling the Eagles. The Eagles now have a way to troll him.
According to the Associated Press, Burress has pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges in New Jersey.
On Monday, Burress admitted that, for 2013, he failed to pay $46,000 in state taxes on $1 million income. As part of the plea bargain, prosecutors dropped a charge of issuing a bad check or electronic funds transfer.
Burress, per the report, faces five years of probation and a “conditional” sentence of 364 days in jail. He’ll be formally sentenced on February 5.
A plea deal reportedly had been struck in July, but that report was not accurate. It’s unclear whether Burress actually will spend time behind bars.
Seven years ago, Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg with a gun he took into a Manhattan nightclub. He ultimately spent nearly two years in prison.
Burress played for the Steelers, Giants, and Jets, before returning late in his career to Pittsburgh. He caught the game-winning touchdown pass in Super Bowl XLII, the game that stopped the Patriots from going 19-0.
