Wide receiver Michael Crabtree signed a one-year, $3.2-million deal with the Raiders in the offseason that came with the hope that he’d perform well enough to land a contract with more security heading into the 2016 season.
Crabtree didn’t even have to wait to play out the entire year before realizing that goal. He has turned in one of the best years of his career for a Raiders offense that has made the same kind of rebound as a group that Crabtree has made as an individual, leading to the four-year extension worth up to $35 million that he signed this week.
“It’s always nice to get it done, right?” Crabtree said, via CSNBayArea.com. “That way we can just go play football. You ain’t worried about where you’re going to be next year and all that stuff. It’s pretty neat to know you’re wanted and you want to be on a team and you’re here.”
With players like wide receiver Amari Cooper, quarterback Derek Carr, running back Latavius Murray, center Rodney Hudson and tight end Clive Walford also under contract for a while, the Raiders will have stability and continuity on offense after many years of direction changes that made team building an impossibility.
