The Giants parted ways with defensive end Damontre Moore Friday after reports of an altercation with teammate Cullen Jenkins over some headphones that wide receiver Odell Beckham brought as gifts to the team.

During an interview with former Giants punter Steve Weatherford and Dave Rothenberg on ESPN Radio on Saturday, Moore confirmed the incident but said it was more than a one-time issue with Jenkins taking multiple pairs of headphones without Moore getting one. Moore said things “boiled over time” and culminated on Friday.

“Yeah, it was more of a respect thing,” Moore said, via NJ.com. “It was, you know, a combination of things that build up over time. And the way the situation fully just unfolded and evolved, I just felt like, as a teammate and a brother, thngs should have been handled a certain way. But also I should have handled things in a certain way, maybe talking it out a little more and walking away from it.”

Moore said that his relationship with the Giants in general also deteriorated over time and “you’ve got to lie” in the bed you make for yourself. Moore called his release “a real and humbling experience” that has taught him to take football more seriously in his next stop, although it’s unclear at the moment when and where that opportunity will come.
