Washington survives in Chicago, stays in first place at 6-7

Washington remains a first-place team, for whatever that’s worth in the lousy NFC East.

In a close, back-and-forth game today in Chicago, Washington managed to hang on and win 24-21. It was a game that Washington led most of the way but nearly threw away with some questionable decisions in the fourth quarter, but in the end Bears kicker Robbie Gould missed a potential game-tying field goal and Washington won 24-21.

Kirk Cousins had a solid game, completing 24 of 31 passes for 300 yards, with a touchdown and one interception. Jay Cutler was good in defeat, completing 19 of 31 passes for 315 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Washington tight end Jordan Reed had a very good game, catching all nine of the passes thrown to him for 120 yards. DeSean Jackson hobbled around after suffering an apparent knee injury and was not much of a factor. Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery had 107 yards and a touchdown but couldn’t come up with a pass from Cutler in the end zone that could have been a game-winner at the end.

At 6-7, Washington is in first place in the NFC East and just needs to keep winning to reach the playoffs. At 5-8, Chicago is going nowhere.
