Patriots add Ball to practice squad

The Patriots have signed running back Montee Ball to their practice squad, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

The Patriots had a locker for Ball Tuesday. Adding him to the running back room makes sense because starting running back LeGarrette Blount suffered a hip injury during last week’s win in Houston.

Blount’s injury left James White and Brandon Bolden as the team’s only backs to finish that game. If Blount is out for extended time, Ball could be promoted to the active roster.

A second-round pick of the Broncos in 2013, Ball was released in the preseason. He had one touchdown run last season.

Ball has been on the workout circuit and earlier this month was considered by the Packers, who ended up promoting undrafted rookie John Crockett instead of signing Ball.
