Brent Grimes’ wife slams Tannehill in Twitter rant

Earlier this season, the wife of Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes made headlines when she was arrested at a Dolphins game in Miami for battery of a police officer and resisting arrest with violence.

Those charges against Miko Grimes were later reduced and ultimately dropped, although Mrs. Grimes lost her gig as a co-host of a radio show on WQAM after the arrest. That’s left her to use social media to share her thoughts about the Dolphins and she had a bunch of them on Sunday evening after the latest Dolphins loss.

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill and several members of the media that cover the team were the target. Her Twitter account is private, but SliceMiami has posted them all. Among the tweets are one asking how many people have to get fired before “you realize [Tannehill’s] the problem” and another saying she should have known the Dolphins would lose because Tannehill didn’t complete a pass in two-minute drills against the “practice squad defense.”

“I knew this QB stunk the minute we signed to this team but I tried to keep quiet so I didn’t discourage bae from believing in his team,” Grimes wrote.

Armando Salguero and Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald and Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post were also targets for having an “agenda” to destroy the defense and “make everything look like Tannehill is not the problem.” There are more vulgar comments mixed into the rant, which is likely the kind of message that, per Salguero, led to at least five discussions with Grimes over time about his wife’s comments in the media because they “reflect poorly on the organization.”

Brent Grimes is signed for two more years in Miami, although the latest round of commentary from his wife may have an impact on whether he’s around for them or if the latest attempt to build a stable, winning organization leads them in a different direction.

  1. If an organization lets a players wife dictate their personnel moves to any degree, including her husbands tenure, that organization is more messed up than anything said wife could ever write on social media.

  2. I wonder if Brent has had a conversation with his wife about how much money and how much she has affected his relations with his employers.
i know she was a very large factor in the Atlanta Falcons letting Brent go to free agency when he left Atlanta. And i would be willing to bet he might be out of Miami soon too for the same reasons. The PITA fee just wears you out sooner or later.

  3. She’s partially correct. Tannehill has not played as well as anyone hoped. They had trouble moving the ball against a subpar Colts defense. But how about the Miami defense? They got manhandled by a weak Colts O-line and 32 year old Frank Gore. The performance of the entire Dolphins squad is outright embarrasing for a team that is loaded with talent. Tannehill isn’t the entire problem, but she is probably echoing the sentiments of ‘Fins fans everywhere.

  4. Social media….helping the rest of mankind be able to distinguish idiots, bigots, and the conceited from normal people without actually having to meet in person. Kudos twitters.

I had a coworker tell me once “I’m not afraid to say anything to anyone, I’ll always speak exactly what’s on my mind regardless of who they put in front of me”. I just shook my head and told them I’m sure that will get them far in life.

  5. “I knew this QB stunk the minute we signed to this team but I tried to keep quiet so I didn’t discourage bae from believing in his team,” Grimes wrote.

Anyone that uses the word “bae” can’t be taken seriously.

  6. Brent Grimes needs to keep his wife leashed with a muzzle on or he’s going to end up unemployed. He may have a difficult time finding another team that wants to sign him and the baggage that will come with him.

  7. I’m really tired of hearing this woman’s opinion. It’s gone from amusing to old. As an American she has a right to her opinion but could the media please stop reporting about it.

  8. Miami’s PASS Defense is ranked 24th in the NFL.

What does brent grimes wife have to say about it?!?

She needs to blame someone for their performance.

She lost me at “bae”. No one past the age of 14 should say “bae”. Actually, no one ever should say “bae”. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure bae is Danish for poop. That dude needs to keep his woman off Twitter, and talking for that matter.

  10. This is Funny because you could make the case that Grimes has been at the root of many of Miami’s losses.

He was lit up by Sammy Watkins (twice)
He was roasted by Dez Bryant
He was burnt up all night against OBJ
He let Danny Woodhead beat him for a few TD’s

When your husband is at the root of a defense that ranks 27th in the league, you shouldn’t be taking shots at one of his team mates.

As far as Tannehill goes, he’s not and never will be Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, but his game is respectable considering the beaten he takes every Sunday behind that terrible O-line.

The guy has been sacked 45 times this year and knocked down over 60 times, yet hasn’t missed a snap and passed for over 4,000 yards for the 2nd straight year.

He might not be the answer, but I can list 7 positions on that team that need to be addressed before I get to the QB position.

  11. Brent is signed for many more years with Miko, which should be punishment enough. And now that it’s apparent to all that she just can’t keep her mouth shut about things she can’t understand, she’ll be continually baited until Brent has a new career.

  12. Tannehill is TOP 10 in the NFL in passing yards with a bunch of nobody wide receivers and tight ends.

    That is amazing!!!

  13. how many people have to get fired before “you realize [Tannehill’s] the problem”

“she should have known the Dolphins would lose because Tannehill didn’t complete a pass in two-minute drills against the “practice squad defense.”

  14. The key to cutting Grimes, and any other player (or their agent/relatives) who does this is to approve a clause that will allow immediate cutting of the player with ZERO hit to the teams salary cap and forfeiture of the remaining salary on the contract.
That is the only way to protect NFL teams, the NFL itself, and the entities that the NFL does business with….from losers like Miko Grimes.

Brent had better hope that his agent moonlights as a divorce attorney.

  15. >.Her Twitter account is private,

It was private, not like she was sending this to the world, like many other athletes. She probably shouldn’t have tweeted it, but it wasn’t meant for general consumption.

If someone tape recorded you at dinner with friends you might not be as diplomatic, as if you were being interviewed.

She shouldn’t have tweeted this, but it shouldn’t be overblown, and that’s what the media likes to do.

Why would the Dolphins care what she says privately?

  16. Why is what she did so terrible? She mouthed off privately?
By your line of reasoning, if player complains about not enough playing time, they should be cut and the contract voided.
    I don’t agree.

    >>The key to cutting Grimes, and any other player (or their agent/relatives) who does this is to approve a clause that will allow immediate cutting of the player with ZERO hit to the teams salary cap and forfeiture of the remaining salary on the contract.

  17. Football is a team game. The entire team is a bunch of flat liners; Tannehill, Suh and Grimes for that matter. The defense owns a good deal of the stink coming from this group as well Mrs. Grimes.

  18. Firstly, what she says has merit, totally! I was a Tannehill fan, still am, the guy is tough as nails and could possibly become an average game manager type QB in the mold of Trent Dilfer, Alex Smith etc providing the OL is fixed, I could see him behind that Dallas line become pretty good but without all that, he is too inconsistent, he has all the talent in the world but cannot put it together and his lack of pocket presence combined with what has to be one of the worst lines in history has him taking serious beatings, his ball placement has led to at least 2 of his receivers missing games, Simms and Mathews.
The Dolphins will, barring a miracle of disastrous proportions have a top 6 pick in this coming draft, that puts them in position to draft Paxton Lynch either by trading up or staying pat. Watch video on this guy, he is everything you need at the QB position and worthy of the tag “Franchise QB”. Yes there are several positions in need of upgrading before the QB but guys like this come round once every few years or so and you have yo grab them when you have the chance. A good QB improves all the team, we all know that, makes the line look better etc.

Ok Secondly, Miko needs to seriously keep her opinions private, she is probably right but her public rant has probably signalled the end of Brent’s Dolphins career, maybe they already know he’s getting cut and that’s why she’s doing it but this does not bode well for bringing in a new coach having this mess on top of what mess of a team we a lady have.

  19. Tannehill already has reputation for being a terrible leader. He’s the one who lambasted the practice squad players for hitting him and defending the ball and yelling that he makes more money than them.

That said, Grimes’ wife ought to look at her husband first and his terrible play before blasting others. The defense is one of the worst in the league. How about blasting the guy who makes the most money in the league on the defensive side of the ball, Suh?

  20. If she said all that here in the PFT comments section, she would get nothing but thumbs up.

I guess that is how anonymity works.

You serious? We’re reading about it now, aren’t we? Even if her account is private, it’s still social media and she knew that it would get out. This woman is a locker room cancer and either Brent needs to cut her from his life or the Dolphins need to cut Brent from their team.

  22. As they say, “Only a fool utters his/hers complete mind !” Even if Ms. Grimes is correct in her assessment she is most certainly NOT helping the problem or her husband’s employment. You would think that by her getting fired she would clam the heck up?? Horrible thought, could you imagine her as a little league football Mom for “Junior”???

I agree regarding Grimes. He’s played pretty poorly this season.

However, Tannehill definitely isn’t the answer. I’ve defended him for the longest time, but not anymore. He’s likely hit his ceiling. He won’t get much better than he already is. I hope I’m wrong though…

This isn’t necessarily directed at you, but with too many Dolphins fans it’s everyone’s fault but Tannehill’s. He’s not the only QB to play with a bad offensive line, and he has a lot of talent to work with at the receiver position.

I’d like to see the Dolphins draft a QB in the middle rounds this offseason and give Tannehill one more year to decide if he’s the guy or not.

According to pro football reference.com Tannehill has 9 4th quarter comebacks. One behind Aaron Rogers and Andrew Luck. My point isn’t to defend Tannehill but to expose Aaron Rogers as the fraud he is. He’s the next Peyton Manning. All stats and one championship. One can only hope Rogers is doing it without the help of HGH.

  25. She’s embarassing, and a good job she lost her job on 560.
If anyone saw that last play yesterday, the offensive line never moved to try and protect Ryan. What were they all sleeping out there, they certainly looked as though they were. Some of them were not even trying yesterday, it was awful. Grimes has seen better days too, so he may as well take his wife to another team, and let her “do her thing there’.

  26. Dolphins front office should place some phone calls to Doug Whaley. Miko Grimes is Rex Ryan’s kind of gal.

  27. maybe giving Suh that ridiculous contract wasn’t such a good idea either. When you make Dan Snyder moves you pay the price.
I think replacing Ryan with RGIII would cure all the Dolphin ills.

Also getting a new owner who doesn’t spend all his time in New York taking care of his real estate holdings would make everything a whole lot better.

It will be interesting watching Suh turn into Albert Haynesworth now that he got his fortune.

  28. She is a crass person, but at the same time, her saying this about Tannehill and his blow up with the practice squad earlier in the season should tell you that more than just her husband feel that way. People are losing their jobs because of this guy stinking. People’s mortages and paychecks are on the line. He isn’t good, but Dolphin fans are more comfortable saying a player’s wife ranting on Twitter is the reason their team stinks. A stink btw that’s preceded Grimes coming to town by many years and has spanned many a good football man like Parcells and Saban trying to fix it, which directly correlates to them not being able to find a QB since Marino. Also, people please drop the offensive line lie. Pretty sure people thought both Tampa’s and Carolina’s offensive lines were worse going into the season and that Carolina’s skill players were worse, but somehow those QBs overcame it. QBs make offensive lines look good, not vice versa. How much more do you want them to do with it. They’ve spent two first round picks on it and a large FA contract on LT. Not the offensive line’s fault that he can’t read defenses fast enough and hit receivers accurately enough to stop getting hit so much.

  30. Can’t say the the problem with the Dolphins is solely the QB. They could stand to improve in a lot of areas.

Issue with getting rid of Tannehill is who are you going to bring in to replace him. Elite QB’s almost never become free agents and aren’t available in trades.

If this offseason you brought in Cutler or Kaepernick I’m not sure you’ve really improved the team.

  31. I understand the Miko bashing and even a diehard Fan like myself is willing to admit Tannehill has reasched his ceiling. He is not a bad QB and about 15 Teams would love to have him, but it is unfair to say this is all his fault. He is not losing games, but certainly not winning them when given the chance. The OLine has hindered his progrees, but it is amazing what he did accomplish with being the most Sacked and Hit QB.

As for Suh, I don’t get you guys? He was fantastic this year. The Stats and anyone who know football can see. He didn’t pull a Haynesworth. Yes, he is pricey and every team that could afford him would have bid. The problem is the rest of the other 10 stunk (excluded R. Jones on purpose), so he had little effect on winning. This is not the NBA. The bottom line is this team has more than Tannehill and Suh to fix. Brent Grimes will either take a paycut or will be released. The Miko stuff did not help his cause.

Cutler is better than Tannehill. A little more reckless with his decisions, but he’s a more accurate passer and has better pocket presence.

Kaepernick is definitely a step backwards.

  33. All you guys with “she’s right” or “she has a point” takes are completely missing the obvious here – right or wrong as her opinions may be, she’s COMPLETELY off-base in taking to Twitter with her 2c worth, especially if she’s going to make those rants expletive-laced (and worse). This broad is flat-out crazycakes. I feel sorry for Grimes (kinda) and any other poor dudes whose path she’s crossed.

  34. There are many adjectives that can be used to describe this sorry excuse for a woman, but none of them would get passed the censors. I have lost all respect for Grimes because of his wife. Anyone that would willingly remain with someone as vile as she must have some serious issues as well. It wouldn’t surprise me if he were a battered husband. The funny thing is that she thinks she is righteous when all she really is is pathetic. She should be in jail for her outburst against the cops and that “do you know who I am?” attitude. Dropping the charges was disgraceful.

  35. Got a chuckle out of the few comments that bash Grimes’ wife and then go on to use that practice squad report against Tannehill. Ironic considering she’s the one that “broke” that gem.

Bottom line is Miami will never see how good Tannehill can be behind that sorry excuse for an offensive line. Want to cut your ties and hope you draft a guy that can overcome those circumstances? Go ahead, but you’ll be sorry a few years later.

  36. For people saying Tannehill is not losing games, you’re paying your QB $100 mil contract, and your team has failed to score more than 20 points 12 out of 15 games. If it’s not the QB’s fault, whose fault is it? The OC got fired. The HC got fired. Mike Wallace is going to the playoffs on a team that’s not blaming him for why his QB can’t win games. Offensive line addressed in first round of the draft and FA. WR addressed in the draft and FA with good returns. So whose fault is it? Cut your losses. Also, the guy saying Cutler and Kaepernick wouldn’t be upgrades, are you serious? At least they’ve done something in this league despite their mediocrity. I’ve never seen a fan base cape so hard for a bad player like this.

  37. Hey Brent??? Is the little woman trying to get you fired?? Does she even realize what’s at stake with these rants she goes on???

Dolphins’ got 99 problems and “Miko” isn’t one! or…. soon won’t be one.

  38. Brent needs to cut Miko loose if he wants to keep his million dollar p/y job. No organization, no coaching staff, and no good teammates want a spouse acting as a self appointed spokesperson for the team.

It’s just bad on all levels.

Agreed with everything but Kaepernick being an upgrade. Defenses have adapted to what he does best and he isn’t really trying to improve anywhere else. Tannehill, although showing little improvement, is at least trying.

The Bears are going to keep Cutler and Kaepernick will probably go to the Eagles. I want the Dolphins to draft a QB in the middle rounds and give Tannehill one more year to prove whether or not he is a franchise QB. After 2016 there is an easy out of his contract.

  40. @realfootballfan

You can be upset but Cutler or Kaep isn’t taking you to the playoffs. They both have equally bad contracts and records the past few years.

Tannehill this year has 22 td’s 12 int’s and will in all likelihood end up throwing for more than 4,000 yards. He has a qb rating of 84.8. In today’s pass happy game he is probably the definition of mediocre amongst starting QB’s.

That being said Tannehill didn’t surrender 38 points to my Jets and allow Chris Ivory to run over, around, and through the Dolphins. Tannehill didn’t let the Pats throw for 356 and 4 tds.

When Green Bay puts Rodgers on the trading block then go ahead and get on your soap box but I wouldn’t pour more money into the QB position for essentially the same results. Better off taking some late round chances on rookies and hoping they develop.

  41. Welcome to the Pats, Grimes. Come chase a ring with a real, professional organization. We’ll use you inside and out, not just pretending you’re a perimeter CB who is overpaid.

  42. themiamidolphins,

Kaepernick isn’t good, so what does that make Tannehill? I doubt he would have led those teams to a Super Bowl and conference game regardless of if anyone has caught up to him. Better to have something that the league needs to catch onto rather than people never needing to make a book to catch up to you because you’re so bad. Btw, Harbaugh to Ron Jeremy and crew as coach, kind of a big deal. So I maintain that at least Kaepernick knows how to manage games and make the plays to win a game that is there to win when he has competent coaching and a good defense. All I have to go back to on Tannehill is him losing to the Bills with their QB situation and Geno Smith’s Jets just needing to win 1 game to get into the playoffs to answer that he is not capable. Again, 12 out of 15 games this year scoring under 20 points. You’re not going to win many games with your QB helming an offense scoring like that.

  43. Looks like the Dolphins may have no choice but try and trade Grimes even though they need CB’s. You just can’t have this on a team. While Tannehill hasn’t reached “franchise” status, most QB’s don’t unless they’ve had 5-10 successful years (note the continued debate about Newton and Dalton).

Anyone that’s followed the Fins is aware the O-line while having 3 very good players, that they barely played as a complete unit and poor depth has been an issue both passing and run. This was evidenced yesterday on the int where his passing arm was hit as he threw it. When he had the time, he it Parker on a 40 yard bomb.

Tannehill has been average this year even though he’s in the top 10 in passing yards. That said, his career QB rating is the same a Luck, better this year when Luck was playing. And for those comparing him to Winston, their about the same statistically. However, Tampa’s rushing offense in in the top 5, along with Minn, Car, Seattle, and Buffalo, a good thing for a QB, and a measure of the O-line as well.

This isn’t to make excuses for Tannehill, as I said, thus far he’s been average, but it can’t be denied O-line play has contributed. The other thing is, do they have a better replacement. I also have no doubt there are many other teams who would be happy to have him. As for Miko, who I’ve supported in the past, and even if she’s 100% correct, her comments are completely out of line for someone in her position, and the team will have additional decisions to make as a result.

  44. Miko Grimes? Are we sure her name’s not Lori?

Reminds me of the scene when Lori’s telling Shane how sorry she was for how everything turned out but instead the result is she’s egging Shane to go kill the leader of the team.

  45. There are many young men who were planning on proposing to their girlfriends on New Years Eve in a few days.

    Then they saw this.

And returned the ring and bought a Hoverboard instead.

  46. The fact that everything she’s saying is 100% correct is a huge problem for the Dolphins. I’m not saying I like the lady, or that I think it’s appropriate for a wife to be saying this stuff. The Dolphins need a new GM. It’s not the owner. It’s not the coaches. Look what happened in Arizona when they hired Steve Keim as their GM. The Bidwell’s still own the team, but now the Cardinals are perhaps the best team in the NFL. You have to find the right GM who can put together a good personnel department, and go out and build a good roster.

  47. Sammy Watkins burned Brent Grimes on a deep TD. OBJ of the Giants Burned Grimes on a long TD. Only thing Brent Grimes why is proving is that she wears the pants in that marriage. Brent is so Hen Pecked that what his wife is saying is what Brent is too chicken crap to say himself. And further more, when has the name “Miko Grimes” came up with something good attached to it?

  48. While I agree with her incredible commentary on her husband’s team, she needs to keep her mouth shut. The Dolphins shouldn’t allow her to views to affect any decision but quite honestly, it does make a laughable end to an embarrassing season…again.

From what I have seen, the problem isn’t Tannehill, it’s the offensive line.

Agreed, and one other thing, the kids one tough sob, if brady had take the hits he has, he would have already retired.

  50. Tannehill is tough and has a ton of athletic ability. He needs a line protecting him and coaches helping put him in position to win. How many times in that game did the commentator say they need to put in max protection plays when they are going to throw because when they did Tannehill was staying upright and completing passes. I think part of the problem is the same thing that is evident in Philadelphia, Lazor had a lot of Chip Kelly’s influence on his offense and the NFL def. coordinators are learning how to stop it. Kelly shipped a lot of talent away but they were still supposed to have a solid offense.

  51. I think we all just want to see what Tannehill can do behind a coherent offensive line.

There isn’t really much else to it. He garners a lot of respect for the beatings he’s taken since his first start against Houston. It’s not been easy to watch. We all see it, and there really isn’t any debate. The guy has earned another pass this season because the offensive line has again proven to be among the league’s worst.

I don’t think anyone thinks Tannehill is going to be a Hall of Famer. Anyone watching the Dolphins these last few seasons though sees that he can play on a level comparable to that of Andy Dalton, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Eli Manning, Phillip Rivers.

The play calling on this team takes a lot of flack, but i believe the personnel dictates a lot of what they are capable of doing. There just isn’t enough time given by the protection for 5 or 7 step drops. Opposing defenses know this, and justly don’t respect the deep passing game. This leads to stacked boxes which forces the team to abandon the running game and use the short passing game to supplement. This is all Miami can do, all a snowball effect of having an inept offensive line.

The biggest problem I see here is that the Dolphins seem content in this, while opposing defenses are happy to let Landry catch 6 yard passes all game. That high volume of a short passing game is bound to lead to a higher percentage of mistakes. Tannehill has actually been statistically good in that department, making less errors that probably would depict, but it still happens. Infact, more errors seem to come from penalties and still failed protections than actual poor reads or throws by tannehill.

Pouncey and the offensive line have more miscues than Tannehill.

The amount of resources invested into the current Offensive Line (2 first round picks, 2 3rd round picks, 1 4th round pick, 2 huge contracts for pouncey and albert) as well as failed 2nd and 3rd round picks on corners (Taylor/Davis) leading to 3 5th round picks and a 6th round pick on DBs, in addition to a 3rd, 4th, and 6th round pick on TEs who are not starters, and lastly a 2 1sts and a 2nd on players who contribute little to nothing (dion jordan/devante parker) show you that the current draft resources over the last 4 years are less than abysmall and have deterred this team from any chance of success. Miami has anemic linebackers and and their high priced defense players (wake, suh, grimes) have not lived up to their contracts this year.

It’s all a shame, and not really fair to put the blame on ryan tannehill.

  52. You keep talkin’ honey because next season you might have to find a job, cause Brent is done in Miami. He can’t keep up anymore because he is 4-6 inches shorter than most of the best receivers. Plus obviously he has no backbone to control his wife’s rants..byby Brent…….good riddance Miko.

  53. She seems to have a lot to say but I don’t recall hearing much from her when Brandon Marshall, Odell Beckham and the rest of the league was having career days against her husband Brent Grimes. Poor Brent she must be a real joy to come home to everyday.

  54. This is as good as it gets, for a long time, for you Miami………….Good times

  55. This HOODY RAT fails to recognize how horrible her little ‘Bae’s’ Defense was all season but all of a sudden is an expert at knowing RYAN TANNEHILL is the franchise problem? um…

  56. doctorrustbelt says:

Tannehill is TOP 10 in the NFL in passing yards with a bunch of nobody wide receivers and tight ends.
    —————————————————————

but he has net ranked no better than 16th in any of the 4 years with the Phins

he stinks at closing in the red zone, and he’s not getting better

he stinks at throwing the long ball, and he’s not getting better

he stinks at progressins, and he’s not getting better

he stinks at audible, and he’s not getting better

he stinks at pocket awareness, and he’s not getting better

see a pattern here… the phins were delusional to marry this guy with that contract
