Report: Howie Roseman clashed with, “poisoned” Ed Marynowitz

Roseman

In the wake of last night’s firing of Chip Kelly, it seemed clear that former General Manager Howie Roseman was moving back toward a position of greater power after being diminished by the former coach.

But it seems the infighting between Roseman and Kelly’s hand-picked personnel guy ran quite deep, referred to as a “war” by sources inside the building.

Via Mark Eckel of NJ.com, it became clear Roseman had problems with Ed Marynowitz, who was also let go last night.

Howie has been poisoning Ed,’' one source said. “And he has his people doing the same.’'

The tension would seem apparent, after Roseman fired personnel man Tom Gamble a year ago, a move which triggered his own reassignment and Kelly ending up with full control of football operations, and then hiring Marynowitz to backfill Gamble’s job.

Another source who worked outside the Eagles building had a less-than-charitable view of the future there, considering the power play.

“Howie got him,’' an executive for what is described as an “Eagles rival” said. “He won. It took him some time, but he got to the owner, and he won. That’s just amazing. What is [owner Jeff] Lurie thinking? That place is just out of control.’'

It might be, but it certainly seems like Roseman has emerged with more control, as he’ll be working on finding Kelly’s replacement.
