Chip Kelly’s open-minded in search, might have wanted Navy job

In the aftermath of his firing from the Eagles, Chip Kelly immediately declared he wanted to stay in the NFL.

But he’s also willing to listen to other options, including some that might seem unusual.

Via Chris Mortensen of ESPN, one source said Kelly “might have been intrigued” if the job at Navy had come open. Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo was offered the BYU job but turned it down.

That seems unusual on several levels, beginning with the fact that when he took the Eagles job, he said he “burned the boats” and didn’t want to go back to college. It also seems like a massive step down, but Kelly has always been a little unconventional, and it would certainly allow him if not a degree of anonymity, at least a smaller spotlight.

Of course, the same would be true if he took the Titans job, as that market isn’t as large or vigorously covered as the Eagles job was.
