Adrian Peterson gets game’s first touchdown, to go with rushing crown

GREEN BAY, WI - JANUARY 03: Adrian Peterson #28 of the Minnesota Vikings carries the ball during the first quarter against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on January 3, 2016 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. (Photo by Wesley Hitt/Getty Images) Getty Images

Adrian Peterson had earned the NFL rushing title without playing a down tonight.

Now, he has something extra to go with it.

Peterson scored the game’s first touchdown in the third quarter, giving the Vikings a 13-3 lead over the Packers.

He’s had to work for every yard tonight, but as long as he didn’t lose yards he wasn’t going to lose the league lead in rushing yards, as he entered the game with a 16-yard cushion over Tampa Bay’s Doug Martin.

If this lead holds up, the Vikings would win the NFC North title and face the Seahawks at home next week, sending the Packers to Washington.

    The Packers offense is pathetic.

The Minnesota Vikings defense is dominant.

This pretty much sums up this game.

All the sudden the NFC North is the weakest division in the NFL. Funny how the worm has turned. It looks like neither team wants to win. Packers would rather go to DC than have to play Minnesota again next week. The Vikings would rather go back to Green Bay than to host the Seahawks. Hilarious. Neither team will win on wildcard weekend.

The Packers are playing sloppy football. Mistakes on the line, penalties, shoddy routes.

The Vikings, on the other hand, look like they came to play. The thing that surprises me, is that they are tackling incredibly well.

Usually the Packers are good at making halftime adjustments, but it doesn’t look good tonight.

  4. shlort says: Jan 3, 2016 10:28 PM

What is really funny is the announcers are talking about other games and other teams already. Half way though the 3rd and the Chiefs and Bengal are more interesting. Funny.

  5. kvnhlstd says: Jan 3, 2016 10:33 PM

Both teams are one and done… unless the Packers win this, then one of these teams get a one week reprieve until getting stomped by a real playoff team.

  6. kvnhlstd says: Jan 3, 2016 10:35 PM

Did not see a hold on Linsley… did see the facemask on Lacy though… so much for the Packers getting all the calls.

  7. kingofthenorth92 says: Jan 3, 2016 10:37 PM

Why would a Vikings win send the Packers to Washington when the Seahawks would be in Minnesota??? Oh you meant the REDSKINS!

Looks like the Vikes brought their own refs.

I really hope they don’t choke next week against the Seahawks.

After all, the Vikings will be the higher seed.

Wouldn’t want to hear “choke” all off season, right?

  18. lambeaudungbarn says: Jan 3, 2016 10:50 PM

Refs are doing everything they can to keep the Packers in this one. Phantom Offside, Uncalled Holding, and the last time I knew, picks by Receivers were illegal, except in Packer land! What a laugher!

  22. northernpackfan says: Jan 3, 2016 10:57 PM

Why are there so many Viking fans with usernames that relate to the Packers, Lambeau, cheese, Eddie Lacy, Aaron Rodgers, and Mike McCarthy? Are they all one immature person with multiple usernames, or are those posters just more fixated on hating the Packers than cheering for the Vikings?

  23. allidoiswin55 says: Jan 3, 2016 10:58 PM

No dog in this fight but GB looks like the worst playoff team in either the NFC or AFC. The team can’t do anything offensively and Rodgers looks bad. We can chalk ot up to a bad year but their are other teams with significantly less offensive talent doing just fine. Just look across the ball or look at Seattle who doesn’t have a primier offensive player playing outside if Wilson on offense. Rodgers being that he’s the reigning mvp is looking like a scheme specific qb this season. I stress this season but he’s been Putrid you can blame whoever you want he’s playing awful. Their defense is spotty and with their offensive struggles they can’t sit back with a lead and play consistent ball.

I’m just surprised to see Rodgers suck this long he’s SUCKED it’s harsh to say but it’s true.

GB getting jobbed by the refs? lol

What about the first drive of the game? Offsides on GB, flag thrown, then picked up? Just because AP got the first down?

Then MN offsides, but flag wasn’t picked up?

You may want to grow up. If the Vikings win, and it looks like they might, I’ll be back to take my lumps and congratulate the Vikings.

Vikings fans would NEVER do the same.

That’s why we will always be better.

Congrats to the Vikings – 2015 NFC North Champions. All jabs aside, the rivalry is clearly alive and well between the Pack and the Vikes. Tonight wasn’t a good game, but Minnesota was definitely the better team.

Wow, not sure what to think about this game. Weird ending. I predicted 9-7 for the Vikings, I think they are a year ahead of schedule. It’ll be surprising if they can compete with the Seahawks, but with 10 rookies it’s clear they are going to be a great team for the next 5 years or so.

  54. oconnewj says: Jan 4, 2016 1:34 AM

Actually the Packers won after it all ended. yes, they didn’t get the division title, but the Vikings have to play Seattle (good luck) and the Packers have to play Washington. Suck to be a Viking’s fan and player. The Vikings are going to get killed again. It would have been nice to play the Vikings again and beat them three times, but it didn’t happen. I will read all the Viking’s fans comments after next Sunday’s game.

  55. oconnewj says: Jan 4, 2016 1:39 AM

All you Viking fans can’t say much until you actually win the Super Bowl. A division title is nothing compared to a Super Bowl win. Vikings can’t say they know the feeling of winning a Super Bowl. Viking fans can say anything about the Packers, but you can’t ever take away the Lambeau Trophy.

  56. teamnorsecore says: Jan 4, 2016 3:20 AM

Zim has been very impressive. I think even super loyal Vikes fans would not have predicted this level of success.

  59. fearadmiral says: Jan 4, 2016 2:49 PM

Aaron Rodgers will be fine. The Packers will be fine. This entire division should be afraid if Teddy develops into a good QB.
