Bills halfway to spoiling Jets’ playoff hopes

Bills running back Boobie Dixon said that Sunday’s game against the Jets is the team’s Super Bowl and Buffalo is 30 minutes away from tasting Super Bowl victory for the first time.

The Bills have gotten the better of the Jets on both sides of the ball and lead 16-7 after a Dan Carpenter field goal just before halftime. The Jets were in a position to get off the field with either a field goal or no points before the two minute warning, but defensive end Sheldon Richardson jumped offside on a fourth down that saw the Bills using EJ Manuel at quarterback and Tyrod Taylor at wide receiver in what appeared to be an attempt to get the Jets to do just that.

It’s been that kind of day for the Jets, who have also missed a field goal, shanked a punt and dropped passes on their way to falling two scores behind the Bills. Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brandon Marshall hooked up for a 40-yard gain that set up a 17-yard touchdown and Chris Ivory had a 58-yard run before the missed field goal, but the offense has been otherwise unimpressive.

The defense had better moments, but did allow a 13-play, 70-yard drive that culminated in a two-yard Karlos Williams touchdown run on another fourth down. Williams won’t return for the second half after a knee injury, but his absence won’t be enough to swing things in the Jets’ favor if they continue to be their own worst enemies on the field.
