Chargers fire offensive coordinator Frank Reich

The Chargers made no secret that changes were coming, even if they didn’t include head coach Mike McCoy.

They’ve started one level below him.

According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers have fired offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

Reich has had head coaching interviews in the recent past (Jets and Bills last year).

The Chargers were ninth in the league in total offense this year (371.8 yards per game), but 26th in scoring (20.0 points per game), a difference that didn’t help when it was time for someone to be offered up.

It will be interesting to see if Ken Whisenhunt wants to circle back for another ride, as he was McCoy’s coordinator in 2013, before taking the Tennessee head coaching job.

The Bills need a backup QB…

Reich’s fault they have a WR corp that consists of Keenan Allen and nobody else…

And how does Reich being terrible as IC not negatively affect McCoy, an offense guy?

In a bar, somewhere, Marty Schottenheimer and Jim Harbaugh are tipping back brews together and laughing their posteriors off!

Usually when the Chargers fire or release someone they go to the playoffs

Fun Fact: His last game as OC came on the 23rd anniversary of his historic comeback as Bills quarterback against the Oilers. Happy Anniversary!

His commitment to running out of the shotgun will NOT be missed. Horrible.

As a Chargers fan, one of the few remaining, McCoy and Telesco need another year. The team was wrecked by injuries. Reich is a good fire. His play calling was vanilla and predictable. If Telesco bombs another draft and McCoy can’t win, they both need to go. As Rivers said, the team went 4-12 one year and 12-4 the next. What can I say, I’m an optimist.

Wasn’t there talk after about the first six games that Rivers was on pace to setting new NFL offensive stats.
Maybe it was only a dream, seems like I had heard that.

Reich had horribly inconsistent talent to work with

Cris Carter: “You need to have a fall guy.”
    Mike McCoy: “OK.”

Did I really get flagged for saying I’m not sure I should even care, given the uncertainty of where they’ll be playing?

    That’s petty.

Chad Pennington is the obvious hire. The Float and Gloat offense will be unstoppable and will set the new standard. Its about time the Chargers hired someone who can fully utilize the power of the float ball.

They had no WR’s left standing at year’s end. Melvin Gordon did nothing. Donald Brown as leading rusher yesterday tells you a lot. They still hope Antonio Gates refers back to 2011 form. And Phillip Rivers becomes a JV QB every 2nd half of an NFL season…so yeah Frank Reich, your bad.

  19. chriskap11 says: Jan 4, 2016 5:52 PM

Frank Reich was the main reason Rivers was on an upswing

I swear people are clueless when they blame Reich for the drops , poor route running and other execution pieces

Be careful what you celebrate because the grass ain’t always greener

I wanted to see the Oilers play my Cowboys in the Super Bowl. Thanks, Frank.
