Colts fire defensive coordinator Manusky

Chuck Pagano AP

Chuck Pagano will be back as the Colts’ coach, but what team owner Jim Irsay called an emphasis on continuity won’t include defensive coordinator Greg Manusky.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday afternoon that Manusky has been fired. Pagano signed a contract extension Monday night.

Manusky had been the defensive coordinator for all four of Pagano’s seasons as coach. The 2015 Colts gave up 379 yards per game and ranked 26th in total defense.

Pagano fired offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton at midseason and replaced him with longtime friend Rob Chudzinski.

“This is the worst day of my life” – Assistant Coaches whom are fired after the Head Coach negotiates with Owner/GM to remain in place, but make changes to staff…..

    So who’s coming, Mike Pettine?

If so, that sounds like an upgrade.

Luckily, the Colts have identified the problem as Manusky. With the star studded defensive roster assembled by ” Executive of the Millennium” , Ryan Grigson, it’s a miracle that they gave up any points at all.

And they kept Grigson and Pagano? Irsay needs some better drugs.

That was long overdue. To be a guy from Baltimore with all the great defensive coaches that have come out of there, he was always an odd hire for Pagano on his original staff. Now, Colt fans just have to hope the Chargers don’t fire his brother before this position gets filled because this could actually get worse if he hires him, lol.

So HE was the one responsible for destroying the promising careers of all those great defensive draft picks grigson made the last four years

Once upon a time this guy was a head-coaching rage. Buyer beware to all of those flavors of the month coaching candidates.

Not even the greatest defensive minds in football could make Bjorn Werner and the rest of Grigson’s acquisitions successful.

With the Chargers in limbo, does Chuck bring in his brother?

  16. duanethomas33 says: Jan 5, 2016 7:01 PM

Gotta fire the whole defensive staff, as the new guy is going to want to bring his guys with him.

Just draft another guy like JJ Watt for your d-line.

I will never understand why coach resigned knowing grigson will be there to ruin things.

Posted earlier as to why Jin Nantz all but anointed PM to the SB, now come to find out, they share the same agent! Brown sports is thankfully starting to question the HGH story.
Full court press by NFL and BSPN are not going to suppress facts.

Greg did alright with what he had, but the more I consider it, this might be the right move. The head coaching market is pretty thin, but a lot of fired coaches will be available as good coordinators. Someone like Pettine may be looking to regain some cred and take the position. Manusky got a lot out of players like Adams, Jackson, and Kerr, but the passing defense was consistently a problem–a way bigger problem than run defense. I just don’t know if his scheme was working anymore.
