When the 49ers were looking for a head coach last offseason, they interviewed Mike Shanahan.
The 49ers are looking for a head coach again this offseason and they will reportedly be talking to Shanahan again. Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN reports that Shanahan will meet with the team on Wednesday.
Shanahan has history with the 49ers after serving as their offensive coordinator from 1992 to 1994. He moved on to become the head coach of the Broncos and won a pair of Super Bowls in Denver. His last head coaching stint with the Redskins from 2010 to 2013 yielded one division title in 2012 before ending in acrimony the next year.
The 49ers aren’t the only team talking to Shanahan this time around. He interviewed with the Dolphins on Tuesday and could wind up on other lists as teams scour the available options in hopes that they won’t repeat the 49ers’ back-to-back coaching searches.
