Adrian Peterson misses practice with back injury

As the Vikings prepare for their first outdoor home playoff game since 1976, the best running back in franchise history didn’t practice.

According to the official injury report, Adrian Peterson missed practice on Wednesday with a back injury. He suffered the injury during Sunday night’s NFC North championship game against the Packers. He was absent from the game for a while, but he returned later. After the game, he told NBC’s Michele Tafoya that he’ll play on Sunday against Seattle.

Also missing practice for the Vikings on Wednesday were defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis (ankle) and fullback Zach Line (illness). Defensive end Everson Griffen (shoulder) and defensive tackle Linval Jospeh (foot) practiced on a limited basis.

Receiver Adam Theilen fully participated with shoulder and back injuries.

The last time the Vikings played the Seahawks, players like safety Harrison Smith and linebacker Anthony Barr were banged up. This time, they’re not even on the injury report, which could help make the outcome something other than Seattle, 38-7.

  1. Once you become a parent you despise terrible parents because you know how hard it is to raise a good kid. Also you realize how cool kids are. I hate parents who won’t discipline their kids. What this idiot did makes me sick. He said roger goodell didn’t know what a whoopin was. Well, you’ll see what a real whoopin is Sunday when the the Seahawks shut you down again. As a hawks fan a win would be sweet but beating this tool shed is gonna be extra nice.

  2. Yes, I am from Minnesota, but I’m 49 years old and have been conditioned through past experiences to see the Vikes fold at the worst times. As a result, I usually expect (and predict) the worst for The Purple in big games. That said, Zimmer has something going here. I know the ‘Hawks routed us last time, but the Vikings were without their 3 best defensive players. The key being that 2 of the 3 (Barr and Harrison Smith) started, but left after one series, leaving under-prepared backups to replace them. Four days later, knowing the backups would have to start (and preparing accordingly), the Vikes did a fine job against the high-powered Arizona offense. I’m not guaranteeing a Vikings victory, but those who think Seattle is in for an easy game on Sunday may be in for a bit of a surprise.

  3. He’ll be 50 to 70% at best and the Vike’s are really going to get destroyed now. See how Seattle handled Arizona running game last week with a healthy back AND WITH the threat of a great passing attack?

Now with the weather Seattle knows they have to run cuz Teddy won’t be able to throw in the cold & their passing game was average at best to start with. Throw in a running back with back problems & This game is going to be a disaster now.

Peterson had to be 100% for this game. His legs will be gone by half time. Even the needle wont solve a bad back and weak legs that go along with it. Good luck though – tough break.

  4. I just listened to an interview with the Professor John Clayton. Today was nothing more than a rest day for Peterson, he’s fine.

  5. In five of AP’s last seven games, he’s averaged about five and a half or less yards per game. The worst stretch of his career. Now he’s nursing a back injury. I guess it’s true: every NFL player hits that wall at some point.

  7. “…….Harrison Smith and linebacker Anthony Barr were banged up. This time, they’re not even on the injury report, which could help make the outcome something other than Seattle, 38-7.” Unless AP is out; then it gets worse…….

  8. Opps! His back is not going to feel any better after Mebane and Rubin tackle him. Without a fully healthy Adrian Peterson the Vikings have no chance. It does not matter who takes the field on defense. Bridgewater is not good enough to carry the Vikings offense by himself, especially in the cold.

  9. Odd that is usually Marshawn Lynch’s headline on wednesday. “Misses practice with back issues”. Then he comes out strong on sunday with no problem.

I’m thinking we should just assume AP will be 100% and ignore this.

  10. Have no problem with AP not practicing, he’ll be fine. Just a not: since all the networks and their “talking heads” in their infinite wisdom have Seattle crushing our Vikes, why are we even playing this game?? Why not hand over the win and say, move on… It really is quite disrespectful (the way they are talking, I mean). Just sayin’……
