Sean Payton’s press conference pushed back an hour

The wait to hear from Sean Payton about his status with the Saints will go on at least an hour longer than anticipated.

Payton was scheduled to have a 2 p.m. ET press conference in New Orleans, but the team announced it would be moved back an hour about 30 minutes before the start. That delay will surely lead some to wonder if there’s something brewing that would change the content of Payton’s comments.

The press conference will be his first gathering with the media since immediately after the team’s regular season finale. That finale came amid several reports that the Saints could allow Payton to move to another team in exchange for compensation.

Payton has met with General Manager Mickey Loomis since then, but there’s been no word from the coach or the team about where things stand for the 2016 season. There was a report that the Colts were in contact with Payton’s representatives before signing Chuck Pagano to an extension and that talks broke down, something that would likely come up when Payton does talk to the media.
