Peyton Manning acknowledges this could be his last rodeo

Peyton Manning AP

Could Peyton Manning’s next game be his last?

It’s possible. Manning will start next Sunday’s divisional playoff game in Denver, and if the Broncos lose, that might be it for Manning. The 39-year-old five-time league MVP is at least open to the possibility that he might not play again after this postseason.

Asked by the Denver Post if it could be his last rodeo, Manning said it could.

I’d be lying,” Manning said, “if I said I’m not thinking about that.”

After struggling with injuries and eventually getting benched this season, Manning played well enough in Week 17 that he became the Broncos’ starter. But he surely wouldn’t want another season like this one. If Manning isn’t sure he can get healthy, stay healthy and play better in 2016, he probably won’t play anymore. His Hall of Fame career could be over as soon as next weekend.

No denying his greatness. One of the best regular season quarterbacks of the salary cap era. 3rd highest winning percentage all time among QB’s with a 100+ wins. Manning was great to watch, the Manning/Brady games were epic entertainment, would love to see one more before he rides off into the sunset

It’s not like he needs the money. He should just retire to an easy life of the broadcast booth or NFLN like so many other ex-players.

Could be? This is it, unless Peyton finds the fountain of HGH.

  16. andrewluckdontgiveawhat says: Jan 8, 2016 5:31 PM

Yeah, injuries are definitely part of it. I’de also be thinking about that HGH report…cause homeboy was definitely taking HGH. As a football fan, I could care less. As a Colts Fan I could care less. As the commissioner of a league that stands to make billions upon billions of dollars under the auspices of maintaining the game’s integrity/upholding the shield blah blah blah….I’m sure Roger Goddell would like nothing more than for five-head to ride off into the sunset taking those (for now) allegations with him. The last thing the NFL needs is a wide-ranging investigation into the use of PED’s by elite level players.

Great regular season QB and really became a thorn in the Patriots side from 06-10. The neck surgeries should have been the end of him and its obvious to any unbiased observer that he used HGH to recover from them and play in Denver. I respect Peyton for everything he accomplished in Indy, despite the career losing record in the playoffs he always got his team there, which can’t be said for some of the great QBs to play this game. Should have retired years ago, now the stench of the coming investigation and litigation will linger over his hall of fame career forever, ala Bonds and Clemens.

The thing is, I think it sounds as ridiculous as dissing Brady and only sais it by way of illustration. I don’t actually hold that anything has been proven or that Manning should be tarred with that brush yet because I actually watched the Al Jazeera piece. Just as I know nothing has been proven against Brady because I have read all the available documentation.

Manning will go down as one of the all time greats and deservedly so. I hope his injuries don’t haunt his post game life and thank him for all the great games I saw him play.

No, patriot fans are NOT jealous of Pedon Manning, we have the GOAT Tom Brady. As patriot fans we are disgusted that Manning has been given a pass regarding the allegations he had a banned substance shipped to his home. There is MORE evidence against Pedon than there ever was against Tom the GOAT Brady. Talk about a double standard. The NFL admitted in federal court they had NO evidence!!! Yet a banned substance is shipped to his home yet no outcry or fake $5 million investigation. What a joke!!

Manning may still be the regular season GOAT but overall its Brady. Anyway I was as happy as any Manning fan to see him come in and Denver pull that game out. I just hope “Kubes” didn’t screw osweiler up like I feel he screwed keenum up. Don’t get me wrong Case hadn’t won a game but he was doing better than Schaub had played and was getting on a roll and his confidence was up. Then against Oakland ,I believe, he yanked keenun as soon as he could for schaub. Blowing his confidence and making him regress. For what you ask? For schaub to throw acpick and lose the game. Next time jeenum went in his confidence was gone. So while I’m happy old Mr basketball head was is back in I just hope they didn’t sacrifice brocks confidence , and career, to make it so

Well, the problem is exactly that. He’s always choked during the big ones. All his stats are regular season. The one he got with the colts, he never had a touch down against the Ravens in the divisional round(5 field goals by Viatiari) and was par at best against a terrible team in Chicago. And if we’re keeping score, that should have made last years win against Seaderall PEDhawks #5 for the Pats.
Manning is the most overhyped player in NFL history.

  79. futures44 says: Jan 8, 2016 8:50 PM

Manning was accused by a then-University of Tennessee female trainer of dropping his pants during an injury examination, and placing his buttocks and private parts on her face.

That sounds bad on its own, but it gets worse: Another student-athlete observed the incident and, several years later, wrote Manning a letter, urging him to admit what he had done.

The trainer immediately brought her complaint to the university, and she won a settlement from the school before leaving her position.

The league has absolutely been all the better for having Manning in it. Although I should imagine that if Brady agreed about reading defenses it would be out of respect, it is exactly that disagreement that validates your post. With Manning gone some of the luster leaves Brady’s star as well. They have defined each other and in doing so ignited fan’s passions in a way that few competitive rivalries ever have. Great QB. Never needed filmed walkthroughs, sideline signals or deflated football’s to win the big one.

That’s just lame. Get you facts straight.

And by the way, learn to spell properly – otherwise you might look like the idiot here.

Texans will help him with that decision when they wreck Denver next week.

Mt. Rushmore of QBs (in no order):
Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas

Wow the level of Pat-scum on these comments is insufferable

  89. mr1drful says: Jan 8, 2016 10:06 PM

Manning will be second string and hold on extra points if it means hanging around a few more years. He’s not done.

  90. bullcharger says: Jan 8, 2016 10:10 PM

I don’t see the point of hating on Manning. Even if he took HGH, I don’t really care. He would be far from the only future or present HOF player who also has done it.

I hope Manning goes out with out a career tarnishing investigation. It just wouldn’t make sense to me.

Aren’t they all the same person?

  93. gbatap says: Jan 8, 2016 10:46 PM

If that’s the case then Denver needs to acknowledge that they might have no QB next year.

    Manning retire. Osweiller leaves town.

Lots of QB needy teams and can’t see Denver ante’ing up 20M for a franchise tag.

My one hope is that Peyton follows Joe Montana’s lead, and quietly disappears from public consciousness, because I’ll tell you what: If Peyton decides to become a talking head, I’m going to need to get a bigger TV.

  95. Damidwesterner says: Jan 8, 2016 11:27 PM

Peyton is sounding a little like Megatron.

  96. kenmasters34 says: Jan 9, 2016 12:37 AM

    H-G-H is on his side.

  97. raideralex99 says: Jan 9, 2016 3:34 AM

With that comment it looks like the NFL (refs) will make sure Peyton and the Broncos will be going to the SB.

  98. helicopterpilot13 says: Jan 9, 2016 4:40 AM

Does that mean we won’t have to look at that largem weird red dot on his forehead after every game he plays in?

  99. taintedsaints2009 says: Jan 9, 2016 6:54 AM

I think denver will regret benching Brock when manning starts throwing picks…in the cold. If I’m a defense, I make the game plan to stop cj Anderson and force manning to throw in the cold…the guy can’t feel his fingertips in any weather. The real question is…will manning get benched in a playoff game? I know everybody wants a storybook ending with this guy but if you saw him play this year, you know that is very unlikely. And he barely contributed to the win last week. And Brock didn’t deserve the benching. Brock is the guy I go to if it’s cold. He played pretty well against cincy when it was about ten degrees.

…..Young QBs like Newton…Carr…Winston….better continue to develop because this league is going to be seriously devoid of passing talent once Brees and Brady retire…..

No better way to bring the classless out of the cellar than to put Peyton in the headline

    yeah there is, Mention Brady.

Actually you don’t need to put Brady’s name in the headlines

Plenty of Hateroids are first to bash Brady with comment on articles that have nothing to do with Brady.

Just look at the comments her if you need proof.

He’s already proven otherwise, a win this year would be an anomie not the norm.

  104. gizzmonic says: Jan 9, 2016 10:19 AM

After his upcoming season long suspension he will be 57

  105. nepatriot1 says: Jan 9, 2016 10:55 AM

Where is the outrage from the holier than thou integrity of the game squad, regarding Mannings PED use? I mean, we just had a year of bogus claims about .02 psi in footballs, we now know of multiple shipments of HGH being sent to “Ashley” Manning. Let’s get on the hate hypocrites! Oh yeah, Manning is a choker, so hate rules don’t apply.

  106. surfinbird1 says: Jan 9, 2016 2:01 PM

Of course this is his last rodeo. He doesn’t want to be in the NFL when this HGH deal gets a full investigation, and it will. Hopefully by the Feds, and no, he won’t be suing anybody. Cheater.

And he will choke as usual with his first opponent.

history has proven about a million times: as soon as you start assuming stuff like that, the opposite happens

PM is still a top flight QB… it would not be surprising if there’s another SB for them this year
