After dumping Lovie Smith as head coach on Wednesday night, the focus quickly shifted to Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter as the top candidate for the job.

But Tampa Bay is at least kicking the tires of some other options for the job in the meantime.

According to Peter Schrager of FOXSports.com, the Buccaneers will interview Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott this weekend.

While Koetter certainly seems to be the favorite, McDermott wouldn’t be a complete surprise either. McDermott was an assistant on Andy Reid’s staff in Philadelphia while Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht was part of the player personnel department in the Eagles’ front office. The two were together for three years in Philadelphia before Licht left to join the New England Patriots in 2009.

McDermott is also drawing interest from the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. His time spent with the Eagles would make him an obvious candidate in Philadelphia as well.
