Sam Shields out again with concussion

Alshon Jeffery, Sam Shields AP

The Packers have made their nearly-weekly Saturday update to the injury report, and it’s now official. Cornerback Sam Shields will miss a fourth straight game with a concussion.

The Packers have downgraded Shields from doubtful to out for Sunday’s wild-card game at Washington. Shields first suffered the injury during a Week 14 game against the Cowboys.

Also, linebacker Jayrone Elliott has been downgraded from questionable to doubtful with a quadricep injury.

Sixteen other Packers appear on the injury report, most of which are listed probable.

This team is beat up and will probably be more beat up after Sunday.

Wisconsins favorite son approves this message.

So, question I have is… Has their pass defense changed since he started missing games? I think the game will be won in the trenches… Redskins 41 Packers 24… Our O-Line will be the difference… we can keep KC safe… Rodgers will have a rough day against our pass rush. Preston Smith & Ryan Kerrigan our going to be difference makers.

Gotta wonder if this week Rodgers deems the game important. Last week he obviously didn’t!

Today’s football helmets do not protect the players from concussion much better than the helmets 20 yrs ago.

You can only put so much padding “inside” a helmet…

Long time ago the NFL proved to themselves that adding padding to the outside of existing football helmets worked much better than helmets without the extra padding.

Some players who were at risk of being forced to retire due to frequent concussions, opted to try a helmet with padding on the outside and IT WORKED !!

It is up to administrators at every level of football to decide what their priorities are…

You can only put so much padding on the inside of a helmet…time to add padding to the outside, like they used to do in the NFL.

This must have been one serious head smack. Dang.

Get well Shields. Also, screw the packers. Terrible football team.

Miss 4 games with a concussion, I think Shields might want to think about his long term health and consider retirement.

It is starting to look like it would be better to list the Packers that will actually playing the game. Seems the list would be shorter!

Will Rodgers actually play this week or will he again be sitting on the sidelines moping like a child who was bullied on the playground…..

Sam Shields out again? Wow, the Packers are screwed.

Skins the curse of RG3 will haunt you. Not to mention your corrupt, crime ridden city!

I don’t understand Sam Shields. Around here, a little knock on the head is common. Me and my roommates do it all the time. And they stay for more.

Aaron thinks Sam Shields has lost all his marbles. So Aaron won’t be playing very hard.

Skinsrock – why would a juggernaut from the most powerful city in the world let a team from a little farming village score 24 points on them??

  16. lavamachine says: Jan 9, 2016 2:07 PM

Skinsuck, and your awful, crime ridden city is a dump i would not set foot in. A murderous rotting metropolitan city! May RG3 be with you.

Most Green Bay fans won’t be going to this game. It’s sad to say, but being isolated in fly-over country, they just don’t know how to handle being in a multi-cultural city.

He hit his head on the edge of the cement area on the sidelines – on the corner edge of cement – that’s a hell of a hit.

Sam Shields might be closer to retirement than donning a uniform again. Too bad. Good player.

This may come as a huge surprise to you but all helmet manufacturers spend huge sums on RD. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that adding padding to the outside of a helmet increases circumference. Doing so increases leverage between the head and shoulders. What connects the head to the shoulders? They studied that and found out that it’s the neck. Further study found that the neck is a fairly critical structure. See where that argument heads?

Tim to increase the roster from 53 to 60.

  22. codythao35 says: Jan 9, 2016 2:44 PM

Rodgers and that offense just continue to give him headache and concussion.

Rodgers and that offense just continue to give him headache and concussion. None of the traveling teams will win except Pittsburg and maybe Chiefs.

I wish my boy Sam would step it up but then again I do not really blame him. I mean would you want to push to get back on the field after seeing this team play?

  26. gopack12go says: Jan 9, 2016 3:06 PM

Ariani, do you literally sit waiting to troll Packers articles? You’re always one of the first to respond, always negatively. You represent your team very poorly and you seem like a very sad person. I feel bad for you. Sort of. Not really.

  27. sidepull says: Jan 9, 2016 3:10 PM

No remorse. Redskins been playing without a starting corner for a while now. Heck even the back ups back ups are seeing action. They had to pull one off the streets just for insurance. No that’s they way it goes this time of year. Gotta play who you have and cant whine about who yo don’t have. I am sure it will be a competitive game anyhow..

  28. jimmysee says: Jan 9, 2016 3:11 PM

More important to get healthy than to play in any game.

But the Packers will miss Sam.

  29. marvin1958 says: Jan 9, 2016 3:15 PM

I agree, jimmysee. The young man’s health is more important than any game.

  30. dlr4skins says: Jan 9, 2016 3:57 PM

Smart move. He’ll have all off-season to recoup after Kirk finishes them tomorrow.

  31. purpleguy says: Jan 9, 2016 6:37 PM

Don’t like hearing that — hope its not career threatening,
