Seahawks at Vikings: The Game Day Poster

unspecified

For those of you who follow hockey (or the PFT Twitter page), you’ve learned by now that the Columbus Blue Jackets have launched for the 2015-16 season a series of excellent, hand-drawn, game day posters. The artist, as I’ve mentioned a time or two (or at least 10) on Twitter, is my nephew, Anthony Zych.

So after he put together an excellent Fargo-based poster for a recent game between the Blue Jackets and the Minnesota Wild, I asked Anthony to make a game day poster for NBC’s first playoff game of the year, featuring Seattle at Minnesota in very cold conditions.

Here’s a link to the full-size image.

The decision to go with Vikings without sleeves or jackets is a nice touch, an homage to the Bud Grant-coached teams that eschewed any external means of keeping warm.

A flying baby chicken attacking a boat of short haired Vikings in football jerseys. That’s what I see. All due respect… Na. It sucks.

    That’s an osprey.

Your nephew is very talented. Congrats to him!

You got my click Mr. Florio. This is the best site ever.

    That is a great poster!

    That’s awesome!

#4 has an uncanny resemblance to Brett Favre in his final year with the Vikings!

    Sorry, not feelin it.

The Patriots had the least fumbles of any offense in the League this year.

Strangely I haven’t seen that reported far and wide.

Bye bye Vikings. It’s going to be bad.

I like the personification of this entire scene. Very striking, i llike that sort of stuff.

Well done. We the North! SKOL!!!!!

  13. clintexas says: Jan 10, 2016 9:50 AM

Pretty solid art, I dig it

  14. qdog112 says: Jan 10, 2016 9:50 AM

To avoid being PC, it’s a monumental fail.

Bridgewater is black(depicted as white), no Bobby Moore(Amad Rashad), Adrian Peterson, Purple People Eaters, Randal Cunningham, Randy Moss, Warren Moon, etc.

Next time tell your nephew to do a little research or plan for heavy scrutiny. If Tarkenton is accurate, so then should the others.

These posters are sweet! I loved the one he made for the Wild/Blue Jackets game.

The art critics here in the comments make me laugh. You guys barely know football to comment on it, let alone have drawn anything more complex than a stick figure.

“To avoid being PC” …. It’s a fantasy poster…there is no such thing as black Vikings…. Or Seahawks that size…. Stop trying so hard.

I’m assuming you’re either joking or haven’t considered the possibility that the people in the boat are fans and not the athletes (notice lack of athletic build). Its just a picture and does not need to be scrutinized.

    It’s….not good.

  21. cardinalsfan20 says: Jan 10, 2016 10:21 AM

    @qdog – There weren’t a lot of African-American vikings.

  22. tommyribs says: Jan 10, 2016 10:25 AM

I think these are great. I’d like to see all of the haters chiming in here draw something even approaching this. All they can mange are stick figure of shafts and balls.

  23. stellarperformance says: Jan 10, 2016 10:26 AM

That is a very cool poster. It appears to render the characters as normal fans in the boat, which infers they are willing to go into battle with their team.

If it was Green Bay, I’d say OK. But Viking fans, especially the usual suspects on this site, will be watching from the comfort of their overstuffed warm couches.

    Guaranteed.

I hope he draws all kinds of Redskins posters only to upset your cute little liberal heart.

Great job Mike! Thanks for sharing. I like his style!

  26. In Teddy We Trust says: Jan 10, 2016 10:35 AM

Great picture, but did he have to put Chris Kluwe in it? Favre was spot on, though.

  27. vikingforlife says: Jan 10, 2016 10:40 AM

I like it!!! Vikings rule!!! But as someone stated, maybe those are fans, not players in the ship??? That would make more sense! GO VIKINGS!!!! SKOL!!! Can’t wait ’til game time!!!

  28. thebirdofprey says: Jan 10, 2016 10:41 AM

I think that is an awesome poster! Bother cities in the skyline – cold, dark and dramatic.

“I hope he draws all kinds of Redskins posters only to upset your cute little liberal heart.”

    LIKE button pushed!

But seriously, can the NBC Sports TALK guys in IT add a “Like” button? Or a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” button?

  30. bondlake says: Jan 10, 2016 10:44 AM

    The pic is nice.

BUT, there is something organically wrong with people who will sit out in that kind of cold and watch a bunch of people run around . . .

    and then drive home drunk.

  31. rcpecook says: Jan 10, 2016 10:51 AM

There’s no accounting for a lack of taste.

  32. stiffarm13 says: Jan 10, 2016 10:53 AM

hopefully you didn’t pay anything for that …. looks stupid

  33. aypeeswhippingstick says: Jan 10, 2016 10:54 AM

You should have depicted them in a Al and Alma’s party boat. Fighting the Seahawk horde with some love toys on lake Minnetonka. It will be interesting to see how many “fans” sold their tickets to the 12th man today.

  34. stellarperformance says: Jan 10, 2016 11:00 AM

The engineering that goes into modern day cold weather gear is light years ahead of the Ice Bowl days. Green Bay has hosted four of the top ten coldest games on record. It can be dealt with. We do it all the time. If you still feel compelled to complain about it, then by all means……stay home and watch it with your grandmother.

Make sure she makes you some hot soup and pats your head.

  35. golforepar says: Jan 10, 2016 11:10 AM

Great picture, having cowering Vikings players afraid of today’s outcome makes it even more real!

  36. frank booth says: Jan 10, 2016 11:12 AM

Why are all of the Vikings’ fans in the boat cowering in fear, and what auto repair shop do they work at?

To all the art critics here on pft — frankly, no one cares what you think.

To Florio’s very talented and imaginative nephew — waytogo!

    Interesting.

Game-day sports posters – the fastest growing art industry of 2016?

  42. mediasloppy says: Jan 10, 2016 12:23 PM

I really like the whole concept. I won’t judge the art, because I don’t know you’re nephews age or how long he has been drawing. Pretty cool though.

  43. truths4all says: Jan 10, 2016 12:30 PM

Don’t know why this poster is so exciting when all it really shows are dumb birds trying to dive bomb Vikings with their filthy, smelly, and messy bird poop.

  44. filthymcnasty3 says: Jan 10, 2016 12:32 PM

Did he draw lil Teddy’s hands to scale?

  45. angellfan says: Jan 10, 2016 6:40 PM

Thank you for the great poster. Anthony is quite the artiste. The Viking fans are for sure brave and the last play was truly heart-breaking.
