Randall Cobb sends Washington into offseason with Kirk Cousins’ catch phrase

CousinsTowel

The good news, for many, is that the exit of Washington from the postseason means the end of the “You Like That!” mantra, at least until next season, if not forever. The bad news is that the saying didn’t go quietly.

Via Scott Allen of the Washington Post, Packers receiver Randall Cobb mocked the Kirk Cousins catch phrase after Sunday’s win, shouting it multiple times toward reporters while heading to the locker room.

The table-turning taunt from the Packers isn’t surprising, given that many thought Washington would find a way to beat a Green Bay team that had lost six of 10 games, thanks to a struggling, sputtering offense. But the “How Dare You Expect Us To Continue To Stink!” mindset can be strong, when a team finally decides to no longer stink.

For at least one day, the Packers didn’t stink. Whether they can continue to not stink on Saturday night, in a place where they lost by 30 less than three weeks ago, remains to be seen.

A statement like “You like that” has a habit of backfiring and lingers long past the time it was uttered for the first time by Cousins. Kind of like “Dream Team”….Of course when the Redskins lose its going to come back. I mean they were waving towels in the stands with it printed on them. They asked for it I think. If you dont want to hear it you have to win first.

Times are changing in Washington. For the first time in a while, we have a team that should be at the top of the NFC East for years to come.

We have an offense that is actually sustainable (unlike the read option), a team loaded full of young cheap guys, a coach who is coming into his own and arguably the best GM in football (atleast if he’s off the bottle)

If you look t the NFC East, 2 teams with new coaches and Dallas handcuffed by Romo’s contract (and he wont stay healthy)….the Redskins should run this Division for the next few years.

  10. patsxsaintsfan says: Jan 11, 2016 9:25 AM

I actually don’t like that Randal Cobb you have been a disappointment to your team this year and your team has been a disappointment this year. You beat the redskins. Good job now you play the team that smacked you 38-8 or whatever and made you look like one of the worst teams in football. I would not like anything about this season if I’m Randal Cobb until you beat a real playoff team not a team that couldn’t even be competitive in its games against good teams this year

  11. rlpftt says: Jan 11, 2016 9:25 AM

Cobb…you’re and avg wr that couldn’t handle being the #1 wr this year, even though you were paid like a #1, so I’m not sure you should be opening your mouth.

Focus on not disappearing next week like you do against any decent team.

U LIKE THAT!!!! I hope they do pay Cousins 20m a year as they didn’t beat 1 team with a winning record and Cousins is below average against the best teams in the NFL. U LIKE THAT!!!!

Wait until you really have something to brag about, like winning the rest of the playoff games, and then shout out stolen catch phrases.

  24. packmanfan says: Jan 11, 2016 10:01 AM

Do I like what? That Kirk showed his excitement and passion and it was something that he yelled in the heat of the exciting moment for him? Yes.
Do I like it that a Packers player was saying it and mocking the opposing QB and getting all giddy when he will most likely lose the next playoff game on a team that has been doing it for years and years and still has nothing to brag about? No.

Dude, put down the pipe. That team could easily be last again next year. They are going to have to overpay Cousins one way or another, and I guess you could say a check down offense is “sustainable” but you saw its limitations yesterday. And then what do you do with Djax, pay him $10m to give half effort like he did yesterday? They do have a few talented players but are far, far from a complete team.

Pretty sure logical doesn’t like it much, either.

In all seriousness, Cousins seems like a decent kid but his reputation benefited enormously this year not just from a horrendous divsion, but also from some epic collapses by Skins’ opponents, including Tampa blowing a 24-point lead and Bears kicker missing a game-tying FG he almost always makes. Unless the Skins improve a lot next year, I don’t see another playoff game.

Hey, to the victors go the smart-alec comments. If the Skins wanted to shut up Cobb, they should have won. The Pack played well and deserved the win.

Even if there had been some Viking trolling, of course Pack fans exhibited the same amount class with all the choke comments, apparently still smarting after the NFCN loss and attendant trolling.

I never brought up the Pack choke cracks last year cause my team has had more than its fair share. Blair Walsh choked — absolutely no doubt. Yet if cheesers are going to play that card, they should note that was an individual choke, unlike a team-wide choke in an NFC championship game where a coach was timid, special teams blew it, and the defense couldn’t stop multiple 4th quarter TD drives and a 2 point conversion. Not hard to see which was worse.

Well let me be the first to commend you upon your superhuman restraint. You were doing so well up until that point but you had to throw in that “cheesers” jab so let me say this, very few are blaming the Vikings choke job merely on Walsh. I would say it was contributed mightily by an offense that couldn’t score even one touchdown, a quarterback who can barely throw more than ten yards, an offensive line that couldn’t run block for more than 2 yards/carry for the leagues rushing champ, that said rushing champ being unable to hold onto the ball in a critical situation and a holder that doesn’t know which way to hold the football. Oh, and a kicker that can’t make chip shots. Is that spreading the “choke” around enough for you? Seems like an all around team choke to me.

  61. vikingforlife says: Jan 11, 2016 7:28 PM

As a very sad Viking fan today, not so much for myself, but mostly for those guys, because looking at their faces after a loss, especially a loss like that, my heart just broke. I know, it’s their job and all, but so much hope and expectation goes into the beginning of a season, and when things start clicking and you know there is a finite amount of games, well, you know where I am going with this. I have Packer fan family members who I congratulated last night, because that is who I am. I still think it is classless to make fun of Kirk Cousins. And honestly, I have an unbelievably incredible memory (sucks I know), and it is full of Viking games, no room for Packer games, so I have “no memory” of the choke job mentioned above! Whew!!! I must admit, though, I am rooting for Carolina for the remainder of the season!!!!

You’re absolutely right – no one on the vikings other than Blair Walsh choked. Your self-anointed GOAT RB didn’t choke when he got 45 yards on 23 carries – did he? And your coach wasn’t timid when he had your little QB take a knee on two consecutive plays to run out the half (and give the ball back to the Seahawks to start the 2nd half) instead of at least trying a run – was he? And your awesome defense did a great job of containing Wilson on that botched snap, holding him to just a 35 yard TD-setting-up completion – didn’t they?

Nope, you’re right. The Packers had a team-wide choke but the vikings only have one player to blame, even though their team did most of the same things you’re accusing the Packers of doing.

  63. beerbratscheese says: Jan 11, 2016 10:34 PM

  64. vikingforlife says: Jan 11, 2016 10:56 PM

So, when it hits close to home you kind of understand??? There is a bit of a difference here, though. When Kirk Cousins originally said that now infamous phrase, it was after a thrilling victory. It was not scripted with a large insurance company! He was excited and had no idea it would take on a life of it’s own. Accept the win with some dignity and class, guys, that’s all. No need to rub salt in the wounds of those players. Just said it was classless, not the most, just classless.

38-8, Packer fan 1st, Cardinal fan 2nd, (lived in AZ FOR A FEW YEARS) This weekend, there will not be 2 fumble recoveries returned for touchdowns. 24-8.
9 sacks cut to average. (2) 17-14. Packer defense changes +2 sacks, +7 points , final score Green Bay 21, Arizona 17.

  66. laserw says: Jan 11, 2016 11:48 PM

I never realized how much of Green Bay’s offense was just a gimmick. When you take away hard counts and fast tempo, there is nothing there. Aaron Rogers is a very mediocre QB who has a good skill for quick snapping and getting free plays.

This team will be embarrassed by Arizona – again.

  67. trozenfundra says: Jan 12, 2016 12:19 AM

According to Cobb (and I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt) he didn’t intend it as a mock of Cousins. Cobb was pumped at the end of the game before the adrenaline had wore off and he says it was more of a message to the doubters that have been counting the Packers out all season. Yeah, it was an unfortunate choice of words and unoriginal but I don’t think he was kicking Cousins and the Redskins. Cobb’s a good guy and doesn’t seem to be the taunting type.

I wish he could have come up with something else though. It kinda made me cringe when I saw the video and was definitely cheesy-no pun intended.

  68. hrmlss says: Jan 12, 2016 12:23 AM

As a Midwesterner , and a Packer fan, I was pulling for the Vikes to win, alot of my friends are viking fans, and I wanted a rematch. I was sick when Walsh shanked the kick. I was really hoping for a Vike’s victory. I hope this does not hang over them like “wide right” over the Bill’s.
