The Cardinals worked out a pair of veteran linebackers on Monday and they signed one of them Tuesday.

The team announced that they have signed Jason Babin to the 53-man roster. Matt Shaughnessy, who spent the last two seasons with the Cardinals, also worked out for them on Monday.

An addition to the linebacking was needed because Alex Okafor is going on the non-football injury list due to a toe injury. Okafor played in Week 17 against the Seahawks and the designation suggests Okafor hurt his toe away from the field at some point during their bye week.

Babin played two games for the Ravens earlier this season and had two sacks in 16 games with the Jets during the 2014 season.

The Cardinals also placed defensive end Cory Redding on injured reserve after he hurt his ankle in the loss to the Seahawks that ended the regular season. Redding had five tackles and an interception in 12 games for the team this season. Linebacker Gabe Martin has been promoted from the practice squad to bring the roster back to 53 players.
