Packers’ Davante Adams unlikely to play vs. Cardinals

LANDOVER, MD - JANUARY 10: Wide receiver Davante Adams #17 of the Green Bay Packers lies on the field injured against the Washington Redskins in the third quarter during the NFC Wild Card Playoff game at FedExField on January 10, 2016 in Landover, Maryland. Packers receiver Davante Adams had a very good game on Sunday at Washington, but he’s unlikely to get the opportunity to repeat that performance on Saturday in Arizona.

Adams is believed to have an MCL sprain in his right knee that would keep him out of Saturday’s game, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports.

Although Adams said after Sunday’s game that he thought he had avoided a major injury when he hurt his knee, the MCL sprain is likely to require him to miss at least a week.

Adams caught all four of the passes thrown to him on Sunday, gaining 48 yards and scoring a touchdown.

Abbrederis and Janis need to step up

esp Abbrederis…guy is too scared to get hit

Becuz he knows the Packers are very dangerous, especially to themselves this week. Might as well give up already. Soft like cheese.

A week? Maybe with any other team. On the packers, he may be out until week 5 of next season.

I’ve dogged Adams all year long and then he goes out and makes some plays when it counts.

Then he gets hurt. I mean… it’s already and uphill climb, but someone else has to step up.

    March on.

no offense meant to the current receiving corp, but come on, between injuries and ability to make a difference when on the field has become laughable

ted thompson usually looks to minimize free agency signings, but I think the Packers are going to need to look there for O-line, WR and LB depth/help in addition to hit on draft picks

  6. mj323 says: Jan 12, 2016 11:36 AM

Hard for Abbredaris and especially Janis to step up when they never get a chance on the field. Teams aren’t afraid of the Packers throwing the deep ball because their receivers (aside from Janis) aren’t fast. It would open up things underneath if they would cut Janis loose once and a while.

  7. greenandgoldinpnw says: Jan 12, 2016 11:38 AM

    Let’s go Abby and Janis!!

  8. boiler72 says: Jan 12, 2016 11:43 AM

The Cardinals will probably win, yes. However, being that there’s zero film on Abbrederis and Janis running routes, etc., could be a slight advantage for the Packers. Then again, screwed-up routes, leads to interceptions. It will be interesting to see if the coaching staff can get creative here. The playoffs are weird, you never know.

Hey conor, turn on the NFL network at noon. You can watch the ONLY NFC north team that’s moved onto the second round. No choke there.

  25. jets4thewin says: Jan 12, 2016 12:06 PM

Don’t this is as big of a loss for the Packers. In the small time Janis and Abbrederis have been on the field they have showed some real potential. Adams was having a terrible year and although he made a crucial catch for the Pack in the game against the Skins he has had a year of drops.

Look for Green Bay to get back to playing like they did last year. Rodgers looked to get his confidence back in the 2nd half of the last game and the D played great in the second half. Should have had 2 int’s to close the game on Cousins.

  43. kcarpenter1245 says: Jan 12, 2016 12:49 PM

Wow. It’s amazing how many butthurt Vikings fans there are on an injured Packers thread. Seriously, you guys lost, now go crawl into the basement where you belong until the draft so you can brag about the players your team selected and how they’re all going to be future pro bowlers.

  44. shlort says: Jan 12, 2016 12:53 PM

The odds are against a Green Bay win. With or without Adams, the hill is a long and steep slog for the Packers. Can Green Bay win? Absolutely. A play or two goes the Packers way and a couple mistakes by Arizona, and the game might fall into the Packers lap. That is how thin the margin is in the NFL.

Read how 5 former pro coaches were asked to evaluate the Packers lack of offense lately and it was startling.
    1. They are the only team without a receivers coach. Don’t want to spend the money. These coaches were shocked at that.
    2. Unlike other teams, Packers have the same plays for a decade now and have changed nothing.
    3. Receivers do not run pass routes. They are told to run to an area on the field and then turn. These coaches said the films clearly show them telegraphing (poor body technique’s due to no coaching) which direction they are turning and making it easy for backs to close on them.
Now I now why Abby is so confused out there. He must be saying “you want me to what?”

  49. keepingitlogical says: Jan 12, 2016 1:03 PM

No one is talking about the MVP of Sundays game vs the Skins, JC Tretter. Backup center making his first start at LT (they gave up 13 sacks the previous 2 games). After giving up the one sack, which also happened to be a safety, he really settled in well. No pressures or sacks after the first quarter. He was also great in the run game. Gutty performance all around by JC!

From what I recall, he had 1st or 2nd round talent according to most scouts, but there were questions about his durability. So they took him with their 5th or 6th round pick. Seems like they factored that in when it came to value. Maybe we should try to unload Patterson to them in a trade for Abberderis? lol

According to their coach, they out played Seattle and he is dam proud of that. Really? You had them in your back yard, on your frozen turf and you never scored a TD.

I know he is drooling for that fast track indoor stadium next year where his team will thrive. What he needs is someone who can pass a ball more than ten yards. Teddy was disappointing this year.

The Packers don’t run to FA because they believe in coaching, and developing the players they drafted because they fit the system… Does it stink when it takes time for a player like Adams to come along? Absoulutely! Especially when Nelson gets injured, it took a while for James Jones and Jennings to get to the consistent starters they turned into for GB.

He has been good at getting 2 or 3 starters in addition to role players in every draft, Teams that rely on FA too much wind up being inconsistent and cap trouble… Packers spend money on FA but its normally making sure good players don’t GET to FA before they choose to, they keep Rodgers, Matthews, Jordy and Daniels.

Anyone’s Oline would look bad if their starting tackles, center missed a couple of games (especially against a blitz happy team like the Cards or Everson).

Thanks for the read… but I still disagree, So TT makes a trade in Sept. for Grant in the position that is the easiest to transition. Thats why guys like Cadillac Williams, Gurley, Rawls have suceeded, heck look at the havoc Starks caused in the SB run. I don’t like mid-season trades trying to learn new systems isn’t easy in other positons, Vernon Davis hasn’t done much since being in Denver…

If the players in the FA pool were that good they wouldn’t be in the FA pool. If you want to go out and get a guy like Finnegan, cause someone like Shields gets banged up why bother wasting your 1st and 2nd round picks on CBs, and those to CBs have done pretty good in their first season it goes a lot further than renting a vet. for 8 weeks.

The bottom line is I feel many people would say TT is a top 5 GM, I would say there are 25 teams that would love to have him, and if you get rid of someone you need to bring in someone better. Letting go of a top 5 GM in hopes to find is very unlikely and not worth the risk.

    1) Ted Thompson has the second best differential between talent brought into the league versus the “value” in his drafting position.

    2) Per a football stat site that contains outsiders in its name has their proprietary values. The Packers have been

    2015 10th
    2014 3rd
    2013 21st (Rodgers broke collarbone)
    2012 5th
    2011 1st
    2010 3rd
    2009 2nd
2008 16th (Rodgers’ first year as starter)

    3) Per another football stat site that contains reference, the Packers’ roster potency was tied for FIRST in the NFL with Seattle. In 2015, 10th. New England 6th.

    4) The Packers need to raid the Patriots’ brain trust? The Patriots have had injuries too, they’ve lost 4 of their last 6.

In the end, Ted Thompson has provided the necessary potency year in, year out. This year was a down year due to injuries. But if there is anyone to finger for responsibility it would be Mike McCarthy. In short, if Rodgers were let go, he’d have a job in 15 minutes. If Ted Thompson were let go, he’d have his choice of jobs within a few months. If Mike McCarthy were let go, no one would care and he’d have a post-Packer experience less than what Mike Sherman experienced (which wasn’t much to talk about).

McCarthy is the weak link in the chain – when the Packers were elite he sandbagged them, when the team lost some potency when Rodgers and Matthews got their big paydays McCarthy under cohered the team, and facing the adversity this year nearly had the team out of the playoffs. McCarthy pretty much got schooled twice by Jim Caldwell who’s hanging on for his own job. McCarthy has been along for the ride at best, and sandbags (and provides a net negative) at worst.

Vegas is never wrong. It will be a Cardinal-Patriot superbowl.

Take AR out of the equation and GB would be looking up at every team in the NFC North.

TT is wasting the prime years of a HOF QB.

I’ve been to and seen him talk at the GB Shareholders meeting in July. He’s better than a sleeping pill – puts you to sleep. The only worse GM in the League is Jerry Jones.

    Hey Cody,
Who are the queens playing this week?

At least my Vikes played a real team and not a JV team who won the division by default. Get real Cheeseheads, the Skins D was terrible. They didn’t sack or pressure AR like the Cards and Minny did, thus the reason for the smirk on his face. And all you fans are so full of yourselves as if your team is a real contender. It isn’t, you know. The Cards are going to bring you all back down to earth. (And just for the record, no way is Jordy Nelson alone gonna save your team).

Hey, Packer fans….Enjoy your last play off game in a long, long time. If you can enjoy getting beat by 3 scores….

Look at the bright side turd bay fans! Jordi Nelson won’t be fielding on side kicks this weekend!

The Packers winning a playoff game is like pulling a winter coat out of the closet and finding a $100 bill in the pocket. Listening to the bitterness of Vikings fans about that win is like finding a $20 bill in the other pocket.

Keep ’em coming Vikings fans. It gets better and better with every one of your bitter, jealous, whiny posts.

How in the heck can Packers fans have bragging rights over Vikings fans when year after year since the last SB win, the Pack also blows it in playoff games?
Sure, the Vikes also lost to the Sea Hawks but at least they were in it up to the last second where the Pack blew the lead they had up until the final minutes. The Pack was a worse loss.
Packers putting down Vikes fans is the pot calling the kettle black.

You’re right becase you would rather play a tough team and lose on a 27 FGA then have achance to play in the divisional round of the playoffs for the first time in over half a decade.

The Packers may win, they might not. If they don’t, I can deal with it. They aren’t playing as well as they could, and nobody seems to have the answers. I can accept it if it happens.

But I cannot think of another group of people more deserving to have the rug pulled out from under them than the superiority-complexed Viking trolls on Packer threads.

The humiliating videos of the Viking fans at the exact moment Lucy pulled the ball away from Charlie Brown will be etched in stone for eternity. I wish you could see my five finger nose salute.

I feel bad for the legitimate fans of the Vikings…..I really do. But the “usual suspect” trolls? Eat it and enjoy it.
