No practice for Roethlisberger Wednesday

Ben Roethlisberger

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said Tuesday that the plan was to take his right shoulder injury “day-by-day” as the team moves closer to Sunday’s game against the Broncos and that he hoped to get some practice time in on Wednesday.

According to the team’s injury report, that didn’t happen. Roethlisberger was listed as out for Wednesday’s session, the first of the week for the Steelers, and told Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he did not throw at all.

Roethlisberger had plenty of company on the sideline. Wide receiver Antonio Brown did not practice, which suggests he’s still in the early stages of the concussion protocol. He’ll have to be cleared through all stages of it before he’s given the green light to play on Sunday. Running back DeAngelo Williams also remained out and the odds are that he’ll miss another game with the foot/ankle injury he suffered in Week 17.

On the defensive side, linebacker Ryan Shazier and defensive end Cam Heyward did not practice. Shazier was listed with a knee injury while a back issue landed Heyward on the list. There’s been no talk of either player being at risk of missing Sunday’s game, although that could change if they are out again Thursday.
