Steelers’ OL says league should look at Broncos’ “bounty”

A hit by Steelers center Cody Wallace ended the season of Broncos safety David Bruton when the teams met in the regular season last month.

Broncos safety Darian Stewart told reporters this week that Wallace is “going to be sore” after Sunday’s AFC divisional playoff game between the teams, then was a little less vague about his plans to go low on Wallace.

I’m cutting him,” Stewart said.

That got the attention of Steelers guard Ramon Foster, who asked that the league office keep an eye on Stewart.

“You put that kind of stuff out there, that just gives you a bigger bullseye,” Foster said, per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Hopefully the refs will be looking at that. The league needs to look at that because that’s making a bounty. So, you want to talk about safety? Address that. Take a stand on that. They made a bounty on a guy who hadn’t done anything to him.”

Stewart said he will keep it “between the lines, between the whistles” but told reporters that Wallace “better not come at me.”

A dirty player from the dirtiest team to ever play football, Mike Tomlin’s Steelers, said what?

  4. justsayin70 says: Jan 13, 2016 9:34 PM

Doesn’t matter – the steelers are going to lose regardless.

  5. walker615 says: Jan 13, 2016 9:37 PM

That’s rich. Your fellow o-lineman made one of the biggest cheap-shot plays of the year, somehow escaped suspension, and you’re offended that the other team has vowed to hit the guy.

    All right, then.

  6. savethebs says: Jan 13, 2016 9:39 PM

I don’t think the guy knows what bounty means.

  7. jjbsew says: Jan 13, 2016 9:40 PM

Seriously?!?! The Steelers are the dirtiest team in the league, yet one person trash talks about evening up the score for a previous dirty hit, and they run to the League for protection?!?

    Give me a break.

  12. clintingham says: Jan 13, 2016 9:45 PM

Again, the Steelers throwing the first punch, and when someone tries to retaliate they get in trouble.

  13. touchdownelvis says: Jan 13, 2016 9:47 PM

To be fair, the Broncos have been synonymous with cut-blocking for decades.

  14. twopaw513 says: Jan 13, 2016 9:50 PM

The Steeler’s head coach interferes in a live play, assistant coaches get into it with players on the other team and now other teams must look into what they are doing against the Steelers? The hypocrisy of the Steelers is at an all time high. Tomlin might be the biggest crybaby coach in the league. If his team wins, no rules were violated. If the Steelers lose, count on Tomlin to find somebody to blame and the hypocrite fan base will blame anybody but their team for losing!!!

  15. deadman3020 says: Jan 13, 2016 9:54 PM

The Cody Wallace hit on David Bruton was one of the dirtiest, cheapest plays I’ve seen in the last 5 years. Of course, Steelers fans will be quick to say that it was payback for Malik Jackson come in just a wee bit late to lay a hit on Antonio Brown, but my God–he targeted the wrong man. How big of an idiot is Cody Wallace to lunge head first at full running speed into a guy who didn’t even make the hit on Brown in the first place.

It’s amazing that Wallace was not suspended for his actions.

  24. jlstaud says: Jan 13, 2016 10:03 PM

After last weeks display of cheap shots by Pittsburgh players and coaches alike, I’d say this idiot lineman should maybe worry about the refs watching them like hawks. What a joke! Shazier shouldn’t be allowed to play in this game and Wallace deserves to have his leg broken and season ended five seconds after the whistle blows.

  25. ncbengalmike says: Jan 13, 2016 10:04 PM

  30. ketch20too says: Jan 13, 2016 10:19 PM

That’s not a bounty. He’s not offering $ for anyone who hits him. It certainly sounds like a threat though

  31. tonebones says: Jan 13, 2016 10:19 PM

Hey idiots. Play football. Stop talking

  32. davikes says: Jan 13, 2016 10:19 PM

Wallace speared Bruton, and the refs let him get away with it. Then someone wants to retaliate. If the refs were better in the first place and flagged it, or if the NFL fined Wallace, there would be a lot less motivation for retaliation.

  33. babyhuey321 says: Jan 13, 2016 10:21 PM

Doubt they will be as dirty as Cincinnati or Baltimore.

  34. bengalguy71 says: Jan 13, 2016 10:28 PM

  35. thekid72489 says: Jan 13, 2016 10:30 PM

  38. ohand16 says: Jan 13, 2016 10:36 PM

I heard an interview with Wallace today in which he acknowledged that what he did was wrong, and said that he expects retribution – now with that said – everyone else shut the hell up. Especially Foster. If that dude played half as well as he talked he’d be destined for the HOF. I have no idea what he has done to justify having his own weekly show on the radio in Pittsburgh.

  42. mswravens says: Jan 13, 2016 10:44 PM

Has the world gone entirely mad? The Steelers harping about player safety, and asking the league to pay special attention to their safety? Gimme a break… There’s nothing can be done to that junk organization that they wouldn’t deserve.

  43. beauregard says: Jan 13, 2016 10:44 PM

  44. boothisman says: Jan 13, 2016 10:44 PM

  46. bronco1st says: Jan 13, 2016 10:52 PM

  47. firecracker87 says: Jan 13, 2016 10:53 PM

Did Stewart play for the Bangles and just get signed with the ponies when I wasn’t looking?

  48. dbfan4ever says: Jan 13, 2016 10:57 PM

“They made a bounty on a guy who hadn’t done anything to him.”

A couple things. First of all Stewart said that if Wallace comes after him he will cut him that is number 1. Number 2 Cody Wallace already did that David Bruton in week 15. Not only did Bruton do nothing to Wallace he wasn’t even involved in the hit to Antonio Brown that Wallace seem to take issue with. Glass houses and all that!

  49. nunezmc says: Jan 13, 2016 10:58 PM

Bruton has a broken leg. As dirty as Wallace’s hit was, it didn’t end his season, just FYI

  50. hlmatty1 says: Jan 13, 2016 10:59 PM

Irony is delicious. After Steeler LB tweets he’s going to shoot Vontaze Burfict after Bell was injured in a legal tackle in the Bengals first game, seems Foster didn’t ask the league to address something a lot more dangerous than a bounty before the next Bengals game. Nor did he turn himself in for spearing another player in this season. Now shoe is on other foot and he believes the League should be involved.

  51. natijim235 says: Jan 13, 2016 11:01 PM

  52. bigbenh8tr says: Jan 13, 2016 11:02 PM

  53. Kaz says: Jan 13, 2016 11:06 PM

These guys. Notice the trend? The AFCN does. They can dish it but can’t take it. Bengals exposed them for it for the world to see. Now everyone on it. Not just the AFCN.

You’ll see the refs rush to the rescue if the Broncos try to get physical back. And if that fails, keep an eye out on the coaches. They’re good for a “random” act of attempted trip, hair pull etc…

  54. eltigredelnorte says: Jan 13, 2016 11:06 PM

    That’s rich.

  55. nodindenver says: Jan 13, 2016 11:08 PM

The only difference between what Wallace did and what Burfect did is that Antonio Brown knew he was going to get hit and David Bruton was standing over a tackled guy who was on the ground. Brute is out for the season with a broken leg and Antonio Brown will be playing Sunday. Foster wants the league to look into what? There are some good football players on the Steelers; what Cody Wallace did to Brute is not football.

  56. aa1829 says: Jan 13, 2016 11:09 PM

Here is an example of one thing that is really wrong in this country. A guy says he is going to hit another guy low, and the response is that he is putting a bounty on the guy. That is not a bounty. Because you say it does not make it so. Make a stupid statement, and it becomes reality. Go ahead Darian, hit him low, teach him a lesson.

  67. j huber says: Jan 13, 2016 11:40 PM

Unbelievable, the dirtiest team in the NFL, and masters of the cheap shot, are now trying to shift blame to yet another team. If anyone watches the last Squealer/Bengals game you will see two Squealers body slam one Bengal, and the closest ref looks right at it, but obviously, he must be a Squealer fan. Just another call missed by the inept refs. Folks need to look and see who these players are so they will understand why the Bengals got upset.
They also need to look at all the cheap shots taken by the Squealers in the last Denver/Squealer game to understand that PAYBACK is gonna be fun.
I’m a Donkey fan this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Squealers are direst team in NFL.

A win is what the Broncos are after, and that I guarantee will be the collective focus. Cheap shots like the one Wallace INTENDED to deliver have a way of working themselves out in this league. Mopping up Mile High stadium after a broncos victory, with a slew of yellow rags, is going to feel really good.

  105. bleedgreen says: Jan 14, 2016 8:14 AM

  106. ausernamethatisavailable says: Jan 14, 2016 8:15 AM

It’s just talk trying to fire guys up and maybe get in the head of the opponent. The real joke was bounty gate. Tell me, now that everyone realizes how much of a sham that was when do the saints get their draft picks back? Throw in an extra one to compensate for losing a season of Sean Payton. Seriously two second round picks and losing a coach for a season just for lifting the curtain on the league just a bit so the public could have a glimpse? The real shame was the way the media jumped all over the saints. I understood average fans but the media should be close enough to know nothing unusual, by nfl standards, was going on.

  107. whodey83 says: Jan 14, 2016 8:23 AM

Well, the Steelers are playing a divisional playoff this weekend while the Ravens are superiorly planning their no. 6 draft pick. Enjoy.

Steelers have no business complaining about any other team. The amount of dangerous play they engage in is absurd. At least 5 players and 3 coaches should be suspended right now for their actions.

Wallace speared Bruton, and the refs let him get away with it. Then someone wants to retaliate. If the refs were better in the first place and flagged it, or if the NFL fined Wallace, there would be a lot less motivation for retaliation.
    —————–
Maybe the cold froze your brain up there in Minnesota? The refs laid a personal foul on Wallace for the helment to helmet late hit. Your rhetoric sounds like that speech the other night to America, full of propaganda, little fact.

    Identify those guilty parties please?

Steelers have been the dirtiest team in the NFL for decades and got some of their own medicine Saturday night. The players/coaches crying has already started and the game has not even kicked off. Priceless. Commence whining from the bitchiest fan-base in all of sports now!

Dear whodey118 – speaking of life support, you should know since your team has been on it for about 25 yrs!!

Hahahaha the saltiness being aimed at the Steelers on the post amuses me. Jealous much? LoL

  120. TeeHeeLOLatPatsHaters says: Jan 14, 2016 1:50 PM

    Broncos by 4 TD.

  121. Deb says: Jan 14, 2016 3:01 PM

Although Stewart said the Broncos wouldn’t go outside the lines, his comments about beating up on Wallace were stupid considering the scrutiny every team will be facing after the Bengals fiasco. That was a nasty hit Wallace put on Bruton in December, but he was both flagged and fined for it. Why mouth off now and invite the refs to look twice at everything you do on Sunday?

  122. smoov513 says: Jan 14, 2016 4:00 PM

So when Pitt LB Vince Williams threatened to shoot Vontaze Burfict this summer if he saw him on South Beach because of the hit Burfict put on Bell and the NFL does nothing about it’s fine with Foster, but some guy says his teammate is going to be sore after the game the NFL needs to investigate the other team.

The Steelers live a bubble where everything they do justifiable and good while every other team is dirty. They demonize Vontaze but they have done similar if not worse things in the past, if he was a Steeler they would LOVE him.

#25 of the Broncos holds up Antonio Brown followed by #97 of the Broncos taking a ten-yard head start then smashing into him. Only THEN does Wallace come crashing in. To defend his teammate. That’s what makes this story so backwards.

If anyone deserves a bounty on his head it’s #97.

You want to blame someone for your guy getting hurt, blame your boy #97, Denver fans.

  124. terribletown says: Jan 14, 2016 4:23 PM

Wait a minute. You mean the Steelers are being mentioned by another team as being cheap? dirty? Instagaters? Classless? Injury fakers? ( ok I threw that last one in for good measure).

    Say it isn’t so!!

(There is no pattern here or anything)

  125. zonex74 says: Jan 14, 2016 4:44 PM

Who cares what Stewart says. He needs to worry about the receivers coming his way instead of a backup Center.

  126. ampatsisahypocrite says: Jan 14, 2016 4:48 PM

It’s amazing how Denver fans have chosen to view this game. Are you seriously unaware of the fact that your #97 took a 10-yard running start then plowed into Brown as he was being held up by another Denver player? Do you think Wallace would just launch himself into the air for no reason? Are you all seriously this blinded by your own homer shades?

Wallace wouldn’t do this for no reason. I suggest you go back and watch the replay and see just what that reason was. Then apologize to the Steelers, their fans and everyone else for being so wrong.

Oh my … thank you for the laugh of the day!!!!😀 You must be new here. If you’d been around for more than 30 seconds, you’d have noticed 32 lovely little bubbles bouncing all over these pages, each filled with fans who think their teams/players/coaches can do no wrong while all others are just the meanest darn people on earth. For you to think only Steelers fans lead that insular existence just means the skin of your bubble is thicker than average.

  128. stillers213 says: Jan 15, 2016 9:24 AM

Great comment Deb. However, Tomlin needs to get his house in order.

Damn what a bunch of crybabies. Do I hear the term Hypocrite or is that to big of a word for you Denver fans. Look up the stats for penalties in 2015 and Denver has more penalties and fines than Pittsburgh and they played 1 less game. I’m not even a Steelers fan and I know that. I guess we will hear more crying after Sunday’s game. Lets just hope its a clean game.

  130. twopaw513 says: Jan 18, 2016 5:58 PM

This cant be true. 31 teams in this league are run by saints. When the season ends they all do charity work for the poor and help feed the homeless. Only the Patriot’s do anything wrong. If you don’t believe, just read the comments on every Patriot story. It is full of self righteous hypocrites and many are Steeelers and Broncos fans.
