Gronkowski has back injury, too

AP

It’s gone from bad to worse for the Patriots, regarding the health of tight end Rob Gronkowski.

A limited participant in Wednesday’s practice due to a knee injury, Gronkowski also has a back injury, according to the team’s official injury report. Gronkowski didn’t practice on Thursday.

A total of seventeen Patriots appear on the injury report, even though New England hasn’t played since Week 17. Quarterback Tom Brady has fully participated both days with an ankle injury suffered against the Dolphins on January 3.

Receiver Julian Edelman has practiced on a limited basis the last two days, as he continues to recover from a broken bone in his foot, which has caused Edelman to miss the last seven games. He last played on November 15, against the Giants.

The status for all injured Patriots will be updated on Friday, with one of the various labels — probable, questionable, doubtful, or out — applied.

  1. As a Chiefs fan I won’t lie, not having to deal with Gronk would be nice, but dealing with all of those pats fans that would use it as an excuse for the loss would be worse.

You’ll get over it. Go Chiefs! Beat the Evil Empire!

  3. Chill people. That tidbit came from the Patriot’s injury report. Probably just like Brady’s perpetually injured shoulder. How much will you bet that was added to take the focus off the knee.

You won’t have to worry about it.

  5. This is smoke and mirrors, Gronk, Edelman, Amendola, and the rest of them will all be out there Saturday in mid-season form. Look for the O to be clicking on all cylinders.

  6. Chiefs are licking their chops right now. You know they want Denver in Denver, and you know Denver would love getting another crack at them.

No offense to the Steelers or Pats, but a Broncos/Chiefs AFC game would be one for the ages. Brutal on the level of, say, the AFC North, but with more class and mutual respect between players.

  7. Let’s see–Reid/Smith on the road, coming to Foxboro, in the elements, against Belichick/Brady in January…

I think KC will be settling for the one playoff win they got last week. Nice streak this year to turn the season around and break the drought.

  8. Haters gonna be all full of disappoint on Saturday.

KC fans should be more concerned with the Pats underrated defense being at full strength. How many points do you realistically expect Alex Smith to put up, especially with a banged up Maclin?

Haha, check back in Saturday around 7:30pm and let us know how that plan is working out.

  10. It’s the playoffs, so a 70% Gronk suits up, and is still better than many other TEs. He and all the other banged up Pats will play but will be held back or used in a conservative/limited way unless the Pats get desperate – which could happen against a good Chiefs team. I’d love to see Goodell have to hand the trophy to Brady, but if the Chiefs do win I hope that they then go on to win it all for themselves.

  11. It has been such a great season. At the start, hundreds were sure the Patriots would go 2-14 while the Bills and Dolphins swept into the playoffs. Now a bitter few hope they don’t make another Super Bowl. Perfect.

  12. Predict it won’t matter who plays for the Pats. They are going to smoke the Chiefs! Can’t believe that big baby Maclin might play. After last week I thought he was half dead the way he was crying on the field. Go Pats!

It wasn’t a plan; it was a speculative observation/comment… you know, since I have no control over who wins what.

  14. “Kc put a helmet on his knee”

What is it Terripet, about 20 years since the Bills even sniffed the playoffs ?

Must be nice to be a fan of such a pathetically bad organization. But you always have wide right and 4 straight SB losses right ?

  15. You all seen this cat dance when he’s drunk, right! He is a freak of nature, a force of violence. TMZ says Gronk and a team mate ripped it up hard last weekend. Just sayin’

  16. Cheaters. Seriously, cheaters. Been caught twice ya know. That isn’t counting all the headset hijinks and hotel raiding. Not to mention the fact that not a single player, coach, or front office employee has been as successful in a different location. Deion Branch and LaGarrette Blount do well, leave and suck, then come back and do well. Tom Brady plays at all pro level when most QBs suffer the effects of age, even his nemesis Manning, who we now know was so hopped up on HGH that he whinnied like a horse.

Expecting the Chiefs to morph into Denver or Pittsburgh? Most of us have a higher opinion of an Andy reid team

  18. Darn Indy. How will you spin this? Think about your donkeys and wives (same thing) and let us know how the Cheaters cheated

Didn’t you say KC must be licking their chops to get at Denver? Implying that KC is planning on playing Denver. You’ll see on Saturday when a 75% strong Pats team beats the Chefs. Check back on Saturday and let us know how that plan of playing in Denver works out.

  20. Lots of Pats fans (like myself), feel this will be a 1 and done year. I’m hopeful Pats win a close one, but I wouldn’t bet any amount of money on it. Kudos to KC.

  21. Anyone that brushes off all the injury news with the Pats and think they will just “turn it on” is just wishful thinking in my opinion.

It sounds pretty simplistic, but we’ve seen it for long enough now…Gronk’s health makes or breaks the Pats offense. It’s too bad he can’t stay healthy consistently enough, because if injuries weren’t an issue with him, I firmly believe we’d be in the middle of watching the greatest tight end of all time.

Any given Sunday and all but the World Champs are the better football team and I expect the better team to win on Saturday.

    🙂

  23. Also if anyone actually believes Gronk has a legit back injury of any significance…you just aren’t paying attention. 🙂

  24. Tee hee 🙂

Ah I love the whiff of desperate Patriot Hater on a fine crisp January evening!

Broncos vs Chiefs would be a battle for who get’s to lose by 35 points to the NFC team.

Given Ben and AB are hurt if the Patriots don’t make to the Super Bowl the AFC can’t win.. Manning will get destroyed again and Alex Smith will have no hope. I hope the Patriots have some gas in the tank.

    LOL

Pats fans incl you have harped for months about Pats FU tour and undefeated season.

Now wither like a shrunken ball.

  28. Even if Gronk misses the game the addition of Edelman, Amendola and Vollmer at something close to 100% would still be a net gain from the offense they trotted out the last handful of games. And let’s be honest health is the only thing keeping New England from being a cinch to go to the Super Bowl.

Kind of like tony moeaki a couple years ago for the chiefs flashed tremendous talent but couldn’t stay healthy only he had it worse not sure if he’s even still in the league

  30. No worries.
They will find another way to cheat without these guys just as they always do whenever they get caught cheating.
Yeah, Bill is a genius where he comes up with the newest innovative ways to cheat.

Somehow Gronk has played enough to be First Team All-Pro for both of the last two seasons.

    Really no comparison there.

    —-

    Nope. Been punished twice.
You might want to read up on some of the more recent criticisms of the Wells report by actual scientists. There is literally nothing there to support the accusation of cheating.

Of course that fact has been known for six months, and people like you don’t care. If you try to think about the evidence, cognitive dissonance kicks in, because you would be forced to abandon one of your cherished beliefs. So you choose to ignore the evidence.

  34. Can you people just stop with the denver vs.. anyone already, manning is starting. Imagine chandler jones sitting on a pond shotgunning bong hits of K2 to canadian geese, then throwing them in the air. That stoned goose attempting flight is what a peyton manning pass looks like these days. Step into reality, it’s just another one and done for peyton.

  35. I’ll agree that our D was good against the lesser teams, but this is the playoffs and KC can run the ball. Even the Jets put up 800 yards on us in 2 games. We’ll need to play like we did back in October.

But if the Pats still end up winning without Gronk, we’ll have to deal with all your “they cheated” excuses.

  37. KC deserves my respect for what they have done this football season.

They deserve my respect for being one of the few teams who actually know how to play the game of football given the mediocrity that rules in the NFL these days.

Most ‘teams’ are a showcase of individual, egotistical talented players who, when they make a play, with their team down by 20 points, celebrate (not really sure what they are celebrating but I guess it might be their ranking on Pro Football Focus!!!).

All the weaklings who keep playing the cheating card do it to justify their own failures. My sincere wishes are that you continue doing it for some time to come, both this season and for a few more.

What the Pats did during the regular season is irrelevant.

What the Chiefs did during the regular season is irrelevant.

What the Chiefs did last week against the Texans is irrelevant.

    One game, winner takes all…

That’s the beauty of the NFL schedule. First you have to survive a marathon, then you have to do 3/4 100 meter sprints to be the World Champion.

Looking forward to a great game and may the best team on the day win.

Hopefully it will be the Pats.

  38. Lies all lies.

    STay Focused KC!!!

Gronk WILL Play! Edelman WILL Play!
Maclin WILL Play! Justin Houston WILL Play! They guys ain’t Jay Cutler!! Even in pain they will be on the field…
The season is on the line. They will leave it all out on the field! Don’t believe these cheaters!!! And check the pressure of the footballs!! lol

    GO CHIEFS!!!!!!

  39. Wow. Just wow! I am a Viking fan first and Foremost! Yet, I love me some Tom Brady and company! Only losers go on about cheating, winners go home and F()&k the prom queen! Seriously, they are the most well coached and disciplined team in history! Brady is the GOAT, and they always out smart and play the competition! It’s almost laughable, yet the losers crying about cheating , pretty pathetic!!

  40. Must’ve been a really sweet party at Donk’s that night. Jones stumbling into a police station, Donk getting so tanked that he fell and suddenly injured his back. Man, time to investigate these clowns for something that actually matters.
