The status of Chiefs wide receiver Jeremy Maclin for Saturday’s game against the Patriots is a big issue for the Chiefs this week and there was a slight change in his status at Thursday’s practice.

Coach Andy Reid said that Maclin was on the field for the early part of practice despite the high ankle sprain that has otherwise kept him off the field since he suffered it against the Texans last weekend. Maclin did not do any work during the team period later in the session.

The same was true of linebacker Justin Houston, who returned from a knee injury to play last week and was also a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. Houston said that dealing with the brace on his knee is a bigger impediment than the injury itself at this point.

Center Mitch Morse and right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif remain in the concussion protocol and didn’t practice for Kansas City. Zach Fulton started in Morse’s place last weekend and Jah Reid stepped in for Duvernay-Tardif following the injury.
