The 49ers are narrowing down their coaching search to a couple of former head coaches.

San Francisco will likely choose between Chip Kelly and Mike Shanahan, with a decision coming within the next 24 hours, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Both Kelly and Shanahan have had some success as head coaches, although both were fired from their most recent jobs, Kelly in Philadelphia and Shanahan in Washington. In San Francisco, big questions would include whether they can get along with owner Jed York and G.M. Trent Baalke (something Jim Harbaugh couldn’t do), and whether they believe they can get Colin Kaepernick back on track or whether they’re going to look for a new franchise quarterback.

The 49ers were reportedly interested in Hue Jackson, who was hired by the Browns yesterday. They may choose either Kelly or Shanahan by tomorrow.
