Ben Roethlisberger listed as questionable, DeAngelo Williams ruled out

AP

The Steelers have been dealing with injuries to their starting quarterback, starting running back and best receiver this week and they’ve announced that two of the three won’t be playing against the Broncos on Sunday afternoon.

Wide receiver Antonio Brown was ruled out early in the day on Friday because of a concussion and running back DeAngelo Williams has now been scratched as well. Williams missed last weekend’s win with an injured foot and was never given much of a chance to play this week.

That leaves quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as the only member of the trio with a chance to play this weekend and the team has listed him as questionable. Roethlisberger rested his injured right shoulder for most of the week, which limited his practice activity to handing the ball off for the most part. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports that he threw the ball briefly on Friday, however.

Roethlisberger’s history and his return to last week’s game after hurting the shoulder suggest that he’ll play. Without Brown and Williams available, the Steelers will need him to play at a high level if they’re going to extend their season for another week.

  1. I’m a Broncos fan and this is terrible news. Really wanted to face a full strength (or as close as possible) Steelers team. When these two teams are firing on all cylinders, it tends to be a fantastic game.

Now about that apology Mr. Jones.

  2. It’s a damn shame that D Will put in so much work and silenced his critics ALL YEAR LONG… Then one trash time game against Cleveland has cost him a shot at the playoffs this year… GET WELL D WILL!!

  3. For the people who ask “what does Tomlin do?” this is what he does — he gets his teams who everybody outside of Pittsburgh thinks has no shot, for one reason or another, to step all the way up in critical situations like this. Hes a motivator and a leader. He may have the clock management skills of a Comcast rep but there’s no doubt the team will follow him into darkness and play their heart out for him, Bell, AB and the rest of the guys who can’t do it themselves.

Have some faith because this is where Tomlin shines.

  4. I think we have to count on 9 points off the Steelers defence along with 3-4 hard sacks of Manning, plus some good return play and the Steelers have this one in the bag.

Everyone should he healthy for the Championship Game.

  5. Great. Now Bungles fans can throw that block party to celebrate
so they can continue to throw bottles and debris every time
they show Big Ben on the screen.

  6. If the league truly cared about the health of its players they would’ve tested roethlisberger last week after the game to see what kind of drugs they put him on after his cart ride to the locker room.

You could see it in his eyes, totally spaced out. That’s why they pulled him abruptly from the tv interview after the game

  7. @Steele McBean

Im a lifelong steelers fan but Tomlin sucks and is basically a joke of a coach. He rides the coattails of very talented offensive weapons and a great defensive system he inherited.

  8. Wow, drama queen Ben is still really milking this, will he show up to the game in full body cast? Hopefully Broncos D has historic day against him

  9. You know what’s amazing? Steeler fans on this page are saying “sucks we won’t have them, but we trust in Big Ben and the rest.” Steeler fans arent lining up excuses if they lose. They expect to win, and if they dont, its because they werent the better team that day.

Unlike ANOTHER AFC team, who when someone is hurt is the sole reason for losing a down, possession, timeout, or game.

  10. Sorry, but it is entirely possible that Peyton Manning throws 2 or 3 picks to make this game interesting.

No way I would look past the Steelers if I were the Broncos.

I hope these reports are exaggerated and these players play and play well.

Announced as ruled out means just that. Mort and Rapoport aren’t reporting this the Steelers have officially ruled them out.

Pacman should be announcing his apology tour dates anytime now. What a clueless buffoon, like AB would miss practice to help sell a call they already got. Samething with the nonsense about Gronkowski in the Saturday AFC game. On another article here there are fools contending he was held out of practice as part of some elaborate scheme. No one is going to sit one of their most important players out of practice before a playoff game without damn good cause.

What does Tomlin do? Trip players and get overrated from one good season as DB coach”

Well, before the season started he was ranked 6th in winning percentage. So whatever he does, he does alright.

  13. Dalton and the Bengals would have actually been a great game against the Broncos.

    Great job Burfict and Hill.

  14. well, either we (steeler fan here) like it or not, our chance to upset the broncos will depend, mostly in our D and the run game w T-N-T… bend don’t brk and keep them out of the endzone… 13-12 Steelers win still a possibility…

  15. Well, it’s not the Pats, so I guess you can believe it. I’m sure the Broncos “Mad Dog” Blitz will take it easy on Ben. Don’t worry, plenty of healing time for him after this one.

  16. Denver is going to come at whoever their QB is. If it’s Ben, I hope they protect him, because Denver likes to hit QB’s late. Von Miller is notorious for things like that.

  17. As a steeler fan, I must say the Broncos fans and players have shown nothing but class this week. Unlike another team who hasn’t won a playoff game in 25 years. Well done.

  18. This will be a real test for the Steelers. It is obvious they will need the other three receives to step up and the two TNT running backs to play like they did in Cincinnati. The defense will need turnovers, but the key to a victory will be the offensive line play! Protect Ben and run block!

Get well Antonio, if we get through this game we will need you next week.

Sounds like what I hear Denver fans saying… “The Chiefs can’t really beat us! You beat an old, washed up, injured Manning! You only won because of blah, blah, blah!”

  20. I think Ben will play if humanly possible because we don’t have a viable backup. It’s frustrating how may times the Steelers have been in this position. Roethlisberger is not indestructible–no matter what he thinks and no matter what the coaches think. Batch was a solid backup–how I miss Charlie! And Gradkowski is reliable. I appreciate that Tomlin thought he had a good replacement when he brought in Vick. But when that didn’t work out, the team should have found someone else. Jones is terrible–and we’ve known that for a while now.

How I wish we had a McCarron or an Osweiler. Or a Matt Hasselbeck.

If not for Burfict, Ben and the Steelers would have actually been a great game against the Broncos. If the antler spray works and Bryant and Wheaton step up in a huge way, it may still.

  22. Bronco fan here – Ben will play & it’s not like the other receivers are scrubs off the street. They are pretty good too although AB is the best in the NFL. Their RB’s didn’t play poorly last week either so I think the Steelers still have a shot to win. Denver, unlike last year, will not overlook this game. It will still be close & I can’t wait.

  23. I don’t like dirty players, but I’m glad the Steelers got a dose of their own medicine against Cincy. James Harrison for one, was always looking to hit players when they were down or vulnerable and cause concussions. Not to mention some of their other dirty players.

  24. Brown is a beast, he will be missed. If Bens arm is not full strength, look for lots of passes to those RB’s. They looked pretty good last week. Got to keep those defenders off of Ben.

    Nope.

Chiefs gave Denver a good old fashioned butt kicking. Denver turned the ball over 5 times and still beat San Diego. Denver turned it over by Manning throwing 4 (I think) picks and lost at home to KC.

KC was the better team that day, I speak for all Bronco fans when I say I’d love another crack at the Chiefs to try and wash out the bad taste of that game. Gotta beat the Steelers first.

  26. Steeler fan here. Jones shouldn’t have to apologize..steelers beat the bungles. That’s all that counts. Still can’t believe 1991 was the last time bungles won a playoff game. That an embarrassment. wHO DEY lmao

  27. There is absolutely no excuse for the Broncos to lose this game as the Steelers are going to be far from full strength with or without “Big Ben”.

  28. I don’t think Ben will be able to throw at all. Has any 1 player ever damaged a team more? Burfict is a beast. I don’t know how 1 player could destroy my Steelers. I am so pissed at Burfict.

  29. I appreciate the fact that some of you Denver fans are saying you’d rather play a full strength Steelers squad…it’s admirable.

As a Steelers fan, with these injuries, I’m already mentally preparing myself for an unsatisfactory and boring blowout loss in Denver. You’ve got 3 all-stars out (4 if you count Le’Veon) and honestly…the Bills and the twin-dummies Bungle-Brothers, Burfeict and Jones got us here. Not our stellar play.

I don’t even think it’ll be a close. It’ll be a Peyton statement game showing the world that he’s still got it. That Denver D is going to make it a long day for young Landry Jones.

In the end, if the Steelers do fall, Hopefully Peyton gets to see KC come to his house the week after and then Peyton gets to go to the big show one final time…

    (Go Chiefs)

  30. The Steelers will make enough game changing plays on special teams, with the help of the 12th man…Mike Tomlin.

Moronic statement. Those “doses of their own medicine” cost the Bungles their entire season…was it worth it?

Yes, Harrison was know for hard hits…but he hasn’t been fined since 2011. Players can learn and change. Burfeict and Pin-Head Pacman need to adapt as well, otherwise they will keep losing critical games due to their own stupidity…

  32. The Big Cats had the Stillers beat so decided to inflict some pain as well, and it was worth it, Denver will embarras the Pittspukes…

  33. Bell, Pouncey and Brown were all first-team All Pros in 2014. None of them are playing Sunday. How good would that offense be if the Steelers had all three all year? Ben will see the doctor shortly before game time and gut it out.
And where is that little pimpled troll tebowedoutoftheplayoffs? Prolly spent the whole week trying to figure out how to change his userid and password in his mother’s basement.

  34. The irony is if Big Ben can’t finish and Landry Jones stinks up the place (he will), then Vick will come in and save the day for all the Dog Loving fans.

  35. The steelers have once again piled up the injuries and have to take the underdog role on the road. Steelers play better as underdogs. Here’s to hoping Big Ben proves them all wrong.

  36. Thanks to the classy Denver fans on this site. Sad that Brown and Williams aren’t playing, they gave 110% all year long and were the best at their positions.

Hoping Ben can play, but truthfully it’s not worth the potential of continued damage to an already injured shoulder.

If we do lose, I’m really pulling for Denver, because I’d like to see Peyton win another Ring before he retires. He’s always been a class act.

TO the classless, low life Steeler haters, it’s pathetic that you weren’t taught better. It’s a game, and the sooner you learn to win with class, as well as lose with it, the better off you’ll be.

PS – it goes for Steelers’ fans who make the same types of comments of our opponents.

  37. Unlike ANOTHER AFC team, who when someone is hurt is the sole reason for losing a down, possession, timeout, or game.

Your passive aggressive ways will lead your team to championships!

  38. This game will be very hard to win under these circumstances..But I will hope for the D to really step it up..
I also will put the call out to our coaching staff to try and go
after Christian Hackenberg from PS. in the draft this year.
he has tremendous upside potential as a franchise QB.
O`Brian will be after him but , He was fantastic as a freshman for him but was not used properly by Franklin since O`Brian left for Houston..
    GO STEELERS..!!

  39. Where’s all the Cincy classless fans crying about Brown faking that concussion.. Did ya’ll see that hit???? The only thing worse than Crybaby Bengal fans is ignorant fans who thought he was faking.. Dude is the best WR in football and I’m glad he’s not playing against us but dont get me wrong.. Burfict is a punk and Pac Woman is a joke.. Stop cryin Cincy, ya’ll lost cause you couldnt control your emotions but dont worry, we’ll do what you guys couldnt
