Sam Shields questionable, David Bakhtiari probable to face Cardinals

Alshon Jeffery, Sam Shields AP

The Packers could have cornerback Sam Shields back in the lineup on Saturday in Arizona.

Shields has been out since suffering a concussion in Week 14, but was able to work in practice all three days this week in hopes of getting on the field against the Cardinals. The team hasn’t announced if he has been fully cleared through the concussion protocol, but Shields has been listed as questionable for the game rather than ruled out so he’s at least close to making it through.

The news is more certain on left tackle David Bakhtiari. He’s been listed as probable for the game, which has him on track to play for the first time since Week 15. Bakhtiari’s absence forced the Packers to start Don Barclay in Week 16 against the Cardinals and his inability to slow the Cardinals pass rushers played a big role in a 38-8 Cardinals win.

Green Bay won’t have wide receiver Davante Adams, who has been ruled out due to the knee injury he suffered last weekend. Cornerback Quinten Rollins is questionable with a quad injury.

If Shields and the other CB are out. Carson is going to have 400 yards and 3 td’s passing on them. You can’t cover Floyd, Fitzgerald and Brown with 1 CB.
I don’t see GB keeping up with the Cards offense.

The more the merrier. As a Cardinals fan, I want every opposing team at full strength. They’ll need it.

I’ve never seen a concussion put someone out 5 weeks… must have really rung his bell. Good news tho

The Cards are the better team no doubt, but the reason the score was so incredibly lopsided the first time was the Packers had one normally started offensive lineman play every down in the game. One.

If the line can do better, the Packers have a better chance, although I still don’t see them winning. They at least probably won’t give up two fumble return TDs and nine sacks.

  5. teamgale88 says: Jan 15, 2016 2:19 PM

Agreed. Packers need at least 1 and probably 2 of those injured corners to play if they want a chance. Bakhtiari is big as well but the line did play 3 quarters pretty well without him last week. Adams being out hurts but isn’t the worse news.

Rest up Sam, we’re going to need you next week.

The game has to be played, the Vikings were blown out by Seattle during the regular season, and we all know what happened in that rematch.

The Pack defense has played pretty well against good offenses without Shields, but the O-line has had trouble against good defenses without Bakhtiari. The Pack could get by with second-stringers against the Skins lousy D-line, but not with the Cards D-line. I bet the game is much closer this time than the prior game. Now please excuse me while I recruit first graders to write mean letters to Blair Walsh.

This game has GB vs Atlanta in 2010 written all over it. Packers playing on house money vs a heavily favored, high-powered regular season squad with no actual playoff experience. Carson Palmer has never won a playoff game in his entire life.

I have a feeling Arians beret will be pulled down over his eyes by the third quarter so he doesn’t have to watch what happens.

the packers lose by even 1 point on a fail mary play, they will find someway to blame the refs….

If the Packers beat the Cardinals 70-0, the Viking trolls would still claim it was the referees’ fault.

How’s the “Wide Left Losers Fan Club” enrollment coming along?

I heard you were all meeting at the UM Women’s basketball game on Sunday.

See? There’s plenty to do in the off-season.

Interesting matchup, which is what I said week sixteen.

The game has to be played. The Cards are talented and well coached but who knows in the NFL. I don’t smell the 2010 season when I look at this years Packers because they had serious momentum going into the playoffs. This offense sputtered like a broken down Nova. The D has been fine if the O was consistently producing this could be a 13-3 team.

I don’t see the Pack producing more than 24 points. I don’t see Rodgers having an MVP performance and I don’t see Lacy or Starks having a huge game. For them to win, Cobb needs a huge day out of the backfield and through the air, Rodgers needs to spread it around and they need a defensive or special teams touchdown.

  20. shepwp1 says: Jan 15, 2016 3:22 PM

I’m hoping for a clean, well-played game, where the refs aren’t involved much. That being said, I want GB to win, but we’d have to play completely error-free football and be about +2 on turnovers to keep up with these high-flying Cards.

3 score loss will leave the Pack with an bad taste in their mouth, and with no playoff appearances over the next several seasons, it will be there a long time….

I don’t know. I’m guessing he meant Loons, the Minnesota state bird (very appropriate) and not Geese, but I’m sure at a loss trying to figure out what lime cheese is. Maybe cody was thinking about the lime jello his mom might give him for dessert if he’s been a good boy at preschool.

All Vikings and Packers fans here in the comments fighting over who sucks less. In the meantime, the Cardinals are turning all your kids into AZ fans. They’ll all leave town and head to ASU or U of A for college, and you’ll grow old and become annoying snowbirds living in Sun City.

To the three Card fans spewing on this thread.

If you believe the Cards are 30 points better than the Packers then you also believe the Seahawks are 30 points better than the Cards….

Hey, the Pack GAVE your guys 4 easy scores and tossed one away in the endzone last time.

    Ain’t happenin’ this time buckos.

To the Viking trolls … your guys lost. They’re done…aren’t you supposed to be sitting in the corner and shutting the heck up?

  33. shepwp1 says: Jan 16, 2016 10:45 AM

Darn- I wish Bakhtiari was questionable (or even doubtful) and that Shields was probable. Let David B sit on the bench while JC Tretter shows him how it’s done, WITHOUT HOLDING!

Cardinals are a great team and a very worthy opponent. I’m still going with the Pack for the upset. Bring it!
