Report: Edelman heads for X-rays

Good news? The Patriots won, thanks in part to the return of receiver Julian Edelman. Bad news? Edelman’s availability for the AFC title game immediately is in doubt.

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports that Edelman was spotted en route to the X-ray room at Gillette Stadium after New England’s 27-20 win over the Chiefs.

Edelman missed seven games after breaking a bone in his foot against the Giants on November 15. It’s unclear whether the foot or another body part is being examined. One of the primary risks of returning from a so-called Jones fracture of the fifth metatarsal is that it could break again more easily.

Edelman had 10 catches for 100 yards on Saturday. For the season, the Patriots are 10-0 with Edelman, and 3-4 without him.

UPDATE 8:46 p.m. ET: Edelman told reporters he didn’t need an X-ray. That doesn’t mean he didn’t have one. Indeed, when asked to clarify the issue, Edelman said he’s not allowed to talk about injuries, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com.

    Precautionary.

I really hate to say this but he needs to play until that foot falls off. What a return. What a game. On to ???

Omg, makes perfect sense that they would X Ray it

    Precautionary x-rays hopefully.

  5. baltimorons says: Jan 16, 2016 8:22 PM

Like burfict, he should be suspended for that flagrant hit on punt. Punk move. He won’t though because the fix is in.

  8. kissmytaintpatriotswinagain says: Jan 16, 2016 8:23 PM

I’m pretty sure they would be automatically x-raying the foot after every playoff game

    Spin

  10. TeeHeeLOLatPatsHaters says: Jan 16, 2016 8:24 PM

Most likely a precaution I would guess. There was a report that he was back in the locker room and not upset about what they found.

They’ll probably take steps to make sure the foot is secure before next Sunday.

  11. pjhurley5 says: Jan 16, 2016 8:24 PM

    10 catches for 1000 yards?😛

  12. drake1937 says: Jan 16, 2016 8:25 PM

How do you have “precautionary” X-rays after the game????

  13. weepingjebus says: Jan 16, 2016 8:30 PM

An injured Edelman is better than a healthy LaFell. Pretty sure Brady was going to stab him at one point.

I would be more shocked if Edleman didn’t go for X-rays after the game? Are people really this dumb? He played the entire game and unless he injured his foot on the last play of the game this is standard operating procedure.

wrong player. It was Amendola that did that. But it was definately illegal. Amendola does not have history of trying to hurt players (usually trying not to be hurt by players) so it was unlikely the sort of ‘intent to harm’ thing that they suspend for. But still illegal as hell so if the NFL taps him on the wallet this week that makes sense.

Omg Even though I just commented I am still cracking up at some guy trying to compare small fragile Danny Amendola to Vontaze Burfict. That was actually a bitter little hater. You can tell because he was trying so hard that he didn’t have his facts straight before commenting and then the lame try to say there is some sort of fix.

Let’s face it, one thing we know is that the commissioner does not want to see the Patriots and especially Tom Brady waiting for him on any Super Bowl podiums. So any fix (if the NFL is even doing that stuff at all) would be against the pats.

  26. carloswlassiter says: Jan 16, 2016 8:46 PM

So the haters now can only hope for a bad X-ray result? Is that really the only way to stop this team? Yes, I think it is.

The fix needs to be in for your haterism it has distorted your ability to hear, read, see and recall. Amendola was called out by the broadcasters, smeared with an article here for a helmet to helmet hit that wasn’t one, wears 80 not 11 and you commented the article on the hit:

  40. fanofsportsman says: Jan 16, 2016 9:46 PM

Probably only getting them so Belicheat can add him to the injury report again like he did Gronk this week…..

  41. whispersd says: Jan 16, 2016 9:50 PM

I’m more worried about people who were actually injured during this game, not a guy who came into the game with a prior injury and would be likely to have said prior injury investigated after the game.

In other words, I’m more worried about the linebacking corps, which saw injuries to Mayo and Collins today, not to mention Hightower also needing treatment. Didn’t see Edelman go down during the game so this feels like a non-story.

I had a Jones fracture and it took forever to heal (especially when I refractured it). They would be wise to take the precaution of X-raying it this soon after his injury.

Dude they’ve had 15 yrs of unprecedented dominance. Even when they do fall back into mediocrity, they have quite the body of work to stand on.

Chances are nobody will ever duplicate what they’ve been able to do.

If the NFL will punish Amendola, they should punish Fitzgerald of the Cards too. Fitz got a personal foul; Amendola got unnecessary roughness.
C’mon haters… I want to hear you rant against Fitz and compare him to Burfict.

Lies. Just like Gronkowski showing up on the injury report. This team gets away with murder.

  51. nfl1818 says: Jan 17, 2016 12:07 AM

Both amendola and fitz had the same foul, blocking in the direction of your goal line. I think it speaks to how confusing this rule is. It is intended to prevent blindside blocks but both of these defenders were facing their blocker. Neither guy is a repeat offender. Both lead with their shoulder.

    Penalized ? Yes

    Dirty ? Not much

    Fines and penalties? Doubt it.

    You’re thinking of Amendola.

    Take a lap, junior.

Ha Ha Ha! Love all the Pats trolls out here like Baltimorons. What an appropriate name. Sorry your team sucks! Booo Hoo! But enjoy watching the Pats travel to another Super Bowl while your team is golfing! Edelman will be just fine! Watch him next week!

  63. bigpatsfan says: Jan 18, 2016 12:05 PM

It could very well be that they were playing it cautious and just wanted to see if he aggravated the foot in any way. I hope he plays next week and is at 100% but if he can’t go then they should sit him and hope the rest of the team can pick up the slack. Brady has a much better O-line than he had last time and they have other weapons that are starting to click. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst! Situational football baby!!!

  64. bigpatsfan says: Jan 18, 2016 12:17 PM

“Like burfict, he should be suspended for that flagrant hit on punt. Punk move. He won’t though because the fix is in.”

First of all it was not Edelmen who hit the guy on the return, it was Amendola. They look alike but they have diffferent numbers. Also Amendola doesn’t have a history of doing dirty stuff. He was a little over excited. He got flagged for it and the refs will be watching to see of he does it again. Not like he knocked the guy out or gave him a concussion.

There is no “fix in” for the Pats to win their next game. If anything it is the exact opposite! Goodell and the rest of the NFL world (outside of New England) is drooling at the mouth to see the Pats lose next week in Denver! I only hope the refs remain neutral and don’t call blatantly in favor of Fenver with pass interference on Gronk everytime he touches a defender etc. That was totally ridiculous that last game they played where he got called twice for OPI when he didn’t do anything strange. Players are turning into crybabies trying to influence the refs and the refs are falling for the crap. Makes me sick! Everytime a rcvr misses a catch they’re looking fr a flag! Play the game and stop looking for freebies!
