Report: Vikings block Kirby Wilson from going to Browns

GLENDALE, AZ - DECEMBER 10: Running back Adrian Peterson #28 of the Minnesota Vikings looks at a microsoft tablet surface pro with coach Kirby Wilson during the NFL game against the Arizona Cardinals at the University of Phoenix Stadium on December 10, 2015 in Glendale, Arizona. After the Browns hired Hue Jackson as their head coach, there was a report that they wanted to hire Vikings running backs coach Kirby Wilson as their running game coordinator.

That move would require the permission of the Vikings as Wilson is under contract in Minnesota and it doesn’t look like the Vikings want Wilson to head elsewhere. Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that the Vikings have blocked Wilson from making the move “at this time.”

While that final note suggests something might change about their decision, it would likely need to happen quickly as the Browns will have to move on to other options before too much longer. Wilson has spent the last two years with the Vikings after seven years on the staff in Pittsburgh.

With Jackson’s announcement that he doesn’t plan on having an offensive coordinator, it comes as little surprise that Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that John DeFilippo has been released from his contract. DeFilippo spent one year as the offensive coordinator and has spoken to both the 49ers and Rams already this offseason.

Jackson met with former Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton about a job on the staff on Friday and the Browns have announced that special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will remain with the team.

    Good!

Kirby is a great coach and it was a lateral move, despite what the Browns and Fritz Pollard alliance were talking about him being promoted to the “run game coordinator”.

Strange things are happening in the land of 0 Rings. The Vikings never
block interviews, then again no one ever gets any interest!

They don’t want Kirby to wallow in the Factory of Sadness.

Wilson owes someone in the Vikings organization a six pack.

They will need to go back to the homeless guy for another name I guess

  6. rcpecook says: Jan 16, 2016 5:35 PM

Let them keep him. Continue the history of underachievement and futility. Their mentally underachieving “fans” deserve it.

  7. abninf says: Jan 16, 2016 5:45 PM

Did he actually want to leave the Vikings for….. the Browns??

  8. dabmasterhap says: Jan 16, 2016 5:46 PM

The key words are “At this time”. He want to be with Hue and they figure out a way to get it done.

You can understand Kirby’s interest. Cleveland has a MUCH better QB situation.

Man the Browns are really getting shot down by everyone, the Bears blocked them and now the Vikings. The Browns are still better then the Vikings, at least they have a bunch of Championships….

…and this still won’t change the fact that the Vikings have ZERO Championships.

55 years of continuous failure and embarrassment!

    ZERO.

“Why should we do this for free? What pick are you willing to give up for an interview?”

The browns analytical department [B.A.D. boys] is now studying what a lateral move is compared to sideways.

Remember when you were a kid, and you had a code with your parents so they would say no to something and let you off the hook for saying no yourself?…..

  18. bubbasmithguy says: Jan 16, 2016 7:31 PM

It’s a lateral move morons. He’s under contract and they want him for the same position in Cleveland. You have to give something up for that type of move.

  19. filthymcnasty3 says: Jan 16, 2016 7:55 PM

Viking fans can’t be bothered with this nonsense. They’ve got a HUGE Packer game to get ready for.

Hue trying to assemble an all black coaching staff.

  21. codythao35 says: Jan 16, 2016 8:13 PM

He rather stay bc he knows Vikings are for special seasons ahead. While, Packers are on a decline and no one wants to go terrible wi where all the sour cheese are.

Wow, hearing some of your comments make it sound like the Vikings are a better franchise to work for. The same franchise who turned their backs on A.P. When was this last time you had anything to celebrate in Minnesota? Your teams suck worse then Cleveland’s. You traded the best athlete in Minnesota to the Cavs. I don’t see any premier free agents saying they want to play for Minnesota…Cleveland is a lot better place for sports then Minnesota ever will be. Let’s see which city wins a Championship first!

  23. pyroscott says: Jan 16, 2016 11:29 PM

Ha-ha! What championships do the browns have? Worst team in football? Worst squander on first round pick? All the history moved to Baltimore in a truck. Keep on exporting crippling depression, because Cleveland isn’t winning a championship in anything anytime soon…

  24. dahenwoo says: Jan 17, 2016 12:26 AM

Just watch Tricky Ricky will trade Kirby for Josh Gordon. Just watch!!
Gordon was a beast with Norv and Zimmer is a no nonsense coach. It can work.

  25. sass41 says: Jan 17, 2016 12:44 AM

let him go this way browns running back can fumble in a big spot too!!!

  26. vikingforlife says: Jan 17, 2016 6:31 AM

Wow, I never realized Brown’s fans were soooooo nasty!

  27. mcmik54 says: Jan 17, 2016 10:19 AM

Why not give them a first round pick? We never use it.

  28. couchbasher says: Jan 17, 2016 11:06 AM

Screw the Vikings. This dude will leave anyway after being blocked of other opportunities. Who wants to work for someone like that?

Plus, I’m glad i don’t have to watch Teddy Bridgewater and his noodle arm anymore.

Does anyone really want to watch the Vikings in the Super Bowl ever?!

They have every reason to be. They are as angry and bitter and frustrated as Viking fans.

Funny how all of you in cleveland were burning Lebron’s jerseys and then when he came back decided it was a revelation. Kevin Love is a great athlete, but if that’s who you’re referring to he’s far from the best athlete in Minnesota.
I have no ill will to Cleveland, and hope the best for the Browns; went to the same high school as Joe Thomas.
However, with that statement: hypocrisy thy name is you.
