Steelers expecting Ben Roethlisberger to play

AP

Although Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is officially listed as questionable for Sunday at Denver, the team is expecting him to start.

Sal Paolantonio of ESPN reports that a Steelers source said of Roethlisberger, “He’s our guy.”

Roethlisberger, who suffered a shoulder injury last weekend against the Bengals, was feeling good after Friday’s practice. Assuming he still feels good tomorrow, he’ll start.

The question, however, is whether he’ll be at 100 percent. Although Roethlisberger returned to the game against the Bengals after the injury, he was very limited and unable to throw the ball downfield. The Steelers are already down their best wide receiver in Antonio Brown and their two best running backs in Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams. If Roethlisberger can’t be Big Ben, the Steelers are going to be in trouble.

  1. Tebow curse! Until last week the steelers had o wins since tebow destroyed them in the playoffs. Now the injuries and the return to denver is part of the tebow curse. I believe it will be a long time till the steelers overcome the curse. Enjoy the game Steeler fans it will be a long time till another playoff win happens.

  2. Tired hearing about this guys injuries maybe he needs to loose a little weight so he’s not laboring around in the pocket

  3. Ben and the defense are the keys to the game tomorrow. With the deck completely stacked against the Steelers, what will the excuses be if the Steelers win? That will be fun to see.

there was never any doubt he would play, and he’s probably not the toughest, but he’s still gonna lose

  5. Whoever wins in the trenches will win this game, Brown or no Brown. Eff all you petty internet trolls. I’m ready for some football. Go Steelers. Much respect to Denver.

  6. Look at all the jealous trolls wishing us well. Too bad you won’t be rooting for your team this weekend. Maybe you can watch Tebow reruns on the internet until the first game starts.

  7. Other than Brady, Manning and Rogers the rest of you are just jealous of Big Ben And wish he was your QB over the last 10 years.
Be real people how many SB’s would some of the teams been in if he was the QB? Be honest!
    First ballot HOF no question.

  8. Great quarterback, but boy does he complain more than anyone in the leauge or what? At least he has an excuse for when they lose. I hope they win, then pats would get easy afc championship game at home.

  9. He’ll pull himself out after the Broncos go up by three scores on his pick six. I expect his post game/season comments will be along the lines of a couple years ago when he said something like, “I don’t like to make excuses, but we had a lot of injuries.” That is the essence of him. Making an excuse for making an excuse.

  10. The Steelers are in no more trouble if Ben plays at less than 100%, than we are if Landry Jones plays at all. Only Ben is in jeopardy.

  11. Yay ben will play in a game that the steelers should be watching at home. I feel sorry for Denver because the NFL will probably screw them over too. If porter was fined the league acknowledges he shoulda been flagged meaning Packman wouldn’t have been flagged and it would have offset the burfict hit. Nfl is rigged

  12. What a drama queen, and it is a joke some people call him “tough”, he misses more games than any other qb, he has single handedly kept guys like Batch, Gradowaki, and Leftwich employed. How many games do Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton etc miss ? Not to mention Peyton Manning didnt miss a single start from 1998-2010, they are tough not fraud Ben

  13. Wow are the haters out just because your team is at home watching that’s why they play the game how many missed calls poor play calls dropped balls fumbles clock miss use stupid bone head mistakes did players make off sides holding to many men on the field the list can go on and on how would the game go if we all just sat down and watch it as a game and took everything in as it happens o but I forgot to much beer stupid pride and lets pee on the fan in front of us or the other things fans do in the parking lot before or after the game maybe we need to be more grown up then maybe the nfl wouldn’t have to look for tools for ratings and then maybe Roger the boss would be gone and we could hope for a better out come

  14. I think the Steelers just have too many injuries to key players right now. With Brown, Bell and Williams out, plus Big Ben unable to throw the ball more than 5 yards or so, I don’t know how the Steeler offense can realistically pose a threat to that ferocious Denver defense. Besides, it would be kind of fun to see Peyton Manning get somewhere in the playoffs just one more time. (In addition, I really, really hope the Chiefs can beat Belicheat and the Pats. I’m totally sick of the Pats and always root for their opponent, no matter who it is.)

  15. I don’t think the Broncos would have prepared for anything else. With all due respect to Landry Jones, I think you’d rather have prepared for Roethlisberger and then scrambled to make adjustments for Jones than prepared for Jones and been scrambling to make adjustments for Roethlisberger.

The real question is how many times does CBS mention the injury during the game tomorrow? I think the over/under should be about 363.5, I’ll take the over.

  16. If he can’t go midway through the game, you could always put in the refs from last week’s game. They single-handedly won for PIT (league admitted that Bryant’s TD wasn’t a catch, and that penalty on Jones at the end of the game should have been offset by penalty on Porter for being off of sidelines).

  17. He’ll play, but he won’t be 100 percent. And if he takes a big hit to the shoulder, that’s it. While I’m a believer in the adage “any team can beat any other team on any given Sunday,” I don’t honestly think the Steelers can overcome this obstacle. And to some degree, we have ourselves to blame.

No team makes it through a 17-week season unscathed. But the Steelers have a history of poor planning when it comes to signing backups to Ben. Charlie Batch was a smart, capable substitute. And Gradkowski is pretty good. But the Steelers have known for a long, long time that Vick has jumped the shark and Jones doesn’t have the skills. The team brought in Phillip Sims for a look-see a few weeks ago, so they were checking out other QBs. They should have made finding one a priority. Too late now.

Lying is an acquired skill much like story telling both of which you are accomplished at. Ben is far tougher than a nacho eating face stuffer so sit on the couch tomorrow saying he ain’t tough as you wipe your mouth on your sleeve.

Toughest QB in the league that’s for sure

    ===============================

He misses handfuls of games EVERY SEASON. Flacco went almost 8 straight years without an injury. Your statement is ludicrous at best.

  20. Ben’s in heaven , if they win he’s a hero if they lose and he throws 7 pics they will still calling the toughest sob to ever play the game. Whatatool

Tough and durable do not necessarily mean the same thing.

True Deb; however, the backup is often viewed as somebody that can give you a chance to win a few games while the starting QB heals – not to win you a SB. Considering Ben missed quite a few games this year, and they ended up playoff bound is commendable.

  23. Has anyone ever seen Mike Florio and Michael David Smith in the same room together? I am pretty sure they are one in the same person. Both of them want to report about how Ben got the “business” when he was sacked last week and how unfair it is that Pittsburgh is down so many injured players.

  24. Glad to see Ben playing….hopefully it will make a competitive game of it!

And isn’t it interesting to see all the negative comments from fans of teams who are already home for the season….and even some dork from Canada! Relax people, it’s only a game…..don’t worry, your crappy team will play 16 games again next season and go home early once again!

Hey, remember that time when Flacco beat the Steelers after Casey Hampton broke his nose? Neither do I. But I remember Ben beating the Ravens in Baltimore after Ngata broke Ben’s nose. No flag thrown of course. Have a nice off season.

  26. Funny…..Burfict terminated the Stoolers…….Antonio Brown, Leweedeon Bell, and Big Jen. They have zero chance in Denver. Roethlisburger will tap out in the first half. Book it !
