On Wednesday, we learned that Patriots linebacker Darius Fleming played through last Saturday’s game with 22 stitches in his leg that he acquired after kicking in the window of a car to help extract a woman who had been involved in a car accident last Thursday.

Fleming said that he saw smoke coming from the car and the woman trying unsuccessfully to kick the window out so he used his own foot instead in order to help things along. Fleming then went on to get treatment for his leg before any emergency services arrived on the scene, which apparently made it hard for the Walpole, MA police department to find a report of the accident when asked by media outlets on Wednesday afternoon.

Those outlets asked police in Walpole, the Massachusetts state police and several other nearby municipalities for reports and were unable to get them until the Walpole police released one on Wednesday afternoon. The report recounted how the three-car accident happened and explained why Fleming’s involvement had not been previously noted.

“There was no fire involved in this crash however there was air bag deployment, which to the untrained eye can appear as if the vehicle is enveloped in smoke. The officers on scene did indicate one of the vehicles did have a broken window. The operator of that vehicle did make statements to one officer that a male party ‘kicked in my window, I think he was a patriot’. This was not entered into the report as this was a standard motor vehicle crash report with no injury. On arrival the individual in question was not on scene and due to the nature of the accident there was no follow up to this information as the identity to an unknown good Samaritan had no bearing on this report. We are attempting to obtain more information at this time and will follow up with another release should we learn more.”

The lack of injuries other than Fleming’s leg make this a story with a happy ending, which is always preferable to the alternative.
