APThe Titans announced Wednesday that Hall of Famer Dick LeBeau will take over as the team’s defensive coordinator.
LeBeau worked for the Titans last season as assistant head coach for defense. Ray Horton, the team’s defensive coordinator the previous two seasons, was hired by the Browns Wednesday.
New Titans coach Mike Mularkey also officially announced Terry Robiskie as offensive coordinator and Bobby April as special teams coordinator. LeBeau will retain his assistant head coach title.
LeBeau, 78, was the Steelers defensive coordinator for 11 seasons before coming to the Titans last season. He’s been coaching in the NFL since 1973. The Titans finished 12th in the NFL in total defense last season, up 15 spots from the previous season.
LeBeau is a great defensive mind. Trolls making age comments in 3, 2…
He should have been DC over Horton anyway!
Might be the only good hire for the Titans in the past 10 years
Man I hope I look that good when I’m 78
What about Monte Kiffin? Is he still in Dallas?
Turns out that Horton Heard a Hue.
loved him when he was in buffalo under tom donahue
Dick BeLeau
Still one of the all time great defensive minds.
Wish you well Dick
I really hope I have that kind of energy and drive at 78
I honestly don’t know how a 78 y.o. guy can withstand the rigors of being a coordinator in the NFL. Really.
Titans 12th in league in defense in 2015?!? I guess watching them defend Brandon Marshall was an aberration…
This could mean titans pass on Joey Bosa at pick 1. He’s not a fit for Lebeau’s brand of 3-4. Lebeau wants DEs that 2 gap and eat up blockers, not rush the QB. That’s the OLBs job.
They will probably draft the OT from Ole Miss and have bookends along with Lewan to protect Mariota.
They’ve agreed to schedule practices around his afternoon nap.
“Only 78? What experience does he have, is his dad not available?”
– Ivor Powell, WW2 veteran who fought the Japs in Burma and former full-time HC of University of Bath soccer team, who retired as HC in 2010 aged 93.
I’m actually encouraged by three of our hires: Robinson, LeBeau and Robiskie. Now, Mularkey, show us something …
Wasn’t their some logic behind Mr. Lebeau not keeping his previous job despite all the love and accolades from his previous employer?
@harrisbarton
Dude is amazing
I hope the Titans have a great “Cover” Free Safety? Your going to need at least 2 or 3 ProBowl DB’s & at least 1 all Pro-Corner, in a Dick LeBeau Defensive scheme…. Oh,, and lighter faster, more of a Linebacker/Safety type? Your going to need it! Good Coach, falls in love with the Blitz…
78….SEVENTY EIGHT! And people were giving Tom Coughlin hell for being 69…smdh.
Wasn’t he already calling plays last season?
Dick LeBeau, he’s a classic & can always teach the game
Terrible head coach – great D coordinator
I wish someone would have given him another chance as a head coach.
He was the best co-ordinatior in the game for years.
I know 78-year olds that run marathons.
To all appearances, he looks fit.
The more relevant question might be whether his mind is as good as it’s been in the past.
Dude will die with his boots on. Inspirational.
Well, there you go. This is the acid test for these owners: They have the pieces in place to be the Pittsburgh Steelers… coaching-wise.
Can they do the front office/ownership roles that’s made the Steelers who they were/are?
Or are they trying to trade teams with Haslam?
I love that man
Great guy, but I think he needs to hang it up. The Steelers defense was steadily declining over his last few years in Pittsburgh and it wasn’t just due to the Steelers having the aging defensive players. I appreciate the years he spent in Pittsburgh but people were figuring out his schemes.
Mike Mularkey, Bobby April, and Dick LeBeau? The Pittsburgh Steelers Coaching staff from 1996 back together again.
Anything will help. ANYTHING!
Almost turning into Steelers South with all the ex-Steelers (LeBeau, April, Mularkey).
Dick Lebeau is different from 99% of all other 78 year olds. He is like a 50 year old… Great person and coordinator.
Freak of nature. Best of luck to him.
