Von Miller: Tom Brady throws in 2 seconds, I only need 1 second

DENVER, CO - NOVEMBER 29: Quarterback Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots is sacked by outside linebacker Von Miller #58 of the Denver Broncos in overtime at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on November 29, 2015 in Denver, Colorado. (Photo by Justin Edmonds/Getty Images) Getty Images

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is one of the best passers in the league at getting the ball away quickly to avoid pressure, but Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller thinks he can collapse the pocket in time to hit Brady on Sunday.

Asked today about Brady needing just two seconds per pass in last week’s game against the Chiefs, Miller said that would be enough time for him to do some damage.

“You said two seconds? Sometimes I only need one,” Miller said with a laugh.

Miller acknowledged that facing Brady is a tough test, but he believes it’s a test the Broncos’ defense is up to.

“It’s quick, we’re just going to have to be tight in the secondary and that little window we get, we have to get there,” Miller said. “No excuses, we just have to get there, plain and simple.”

Whether Miller and his teammates can get to Brady quickly will go a long way toward determining which team gets to the Super Bowl.

This trash talk is getting epic

It’s astonishing. It’s as if the Broncos want to motivate the Pats with so much bulletin board material that they stomp them. See: Bills vs Pats week 2, and all the endless trash talk from Wrecks. How did that work out for the Bills?

A good secondary can help the pass rush. Chris Harris’ health will be the decider.

  7. integrityoftheshield says: Jan 20, 2016 4:30 PM

As long as he and the other Broncos linemen want to shoot the gaps that quickly, the Patriots will have a field day with draws and screens. Look for Steven Jackson to have a huge day.

“Miller said with a laugh.” He’s not serious. Another quotation that becomes toneless in print.

Everybody knows that the only guy who can get to the QB in one second in Michael Bennett. Because he jumps two seconds before the snap.

  15. flash1287 says: Jan 20, 2016 4:35 PM

No stupid you can’t get to him in 1 second.

Chances are you will be neutralized like have have been most of the times you have played vs the Patriots

  16. zerocool62 says: Jan 20, 2016 4:35 PM

ummmm….so Brady needs 2 seconds to clear the contents of his hand (balls) and Von Miller is openly bragging about clearing his balls in 1 second. ok takes a brave man to acknowledge this

  17. mikeytoth says: Jan 20, 2016 4:35 PM

Why would you run your mouth before this game? Because of stupidity. So, when the broncos lose, they will cry cheating occurred. Somehow someway they must have cheated. Because all haters are clueless.

  18. quizlingclinic says: Jan 20, 2016 4:35 PM

We are learning two things. Denver is scared to death. And they are very undisciplined. This is cannon fodder for the Patriots.

Things usually go pretty well for the Patriots when Brady brings the edge.

  22. patsfiend says: Jan 20, 2016 4:37 PM

He’s definitely flattened Brady a couple times in the past, so I’m sure he’ll get a couple in, even after the ball is gone, on Sunday.

  23. dinozzo27 says: Jan 20, 2016 4:37 PM

Thanks Von…here comes the staggered count by Brady…going to start a drinking game, every time you hear Neutral zone infraction or offsides #58 defense, 5 yards…time for a drink

Someone should refresh his memory from last week. Going up against a QB that holds the ball until the last possible second, Miller had a grand total of 2 solo tackles to go along with no sacks or QB pressures.

  31. infectorman says: Jan 20, 2016 4:43 PM

Suspended Denver Broncos Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller unsuccessfully attempted to corrupt the NFL’s drug-testing program with the help of a urine collector before each was caught in a matter that will affect how the NFL’s collection testing procedures are done, league sources said.

This helps explain why Miller’s four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy suddenly and mysteriously was increased to six games and easily could have been up to a year, the sources said.

It’s a good point, but there is something too the psychological aspect of sports. The teams will give their best no matter what, but pride often does come before the fall. I don’t think Miller is being prideful here, though.

  55. lscratchingthesurface says: Jan 20, 2016 5:01 PM

    Von Miller is nothing.

  56. truths4all says: Jan 20, 2016 5:01 PM

Based on the Bronco’s proven propensity to try to blow the knees of opposing players, what Von Miller really means is he only needs one second to help Brady tear up his ACL, MCL, or both!

  57. harrisonhits2 says: Jan 20, 2016 5:03 PM

I just hope if the Pats get up big early that these dirtbags don’t start intentionally injuring Pats players.

  58. zombiepatriot says: Jan 20, 2016 5:03 PM

  59. kurtrundell says: Jan 20, 2016 5:03 PM

I’ll be cheering for the Broncos to win because I think Peyton Manning is a good guy who deserves another championship… but this Broncos’ team sounds like a bunch of high school kids. Kubiak should probably reign it in… New England is in their heads and it’s only Wednesday.

  62. patsrule59 says: Jan 20, 2016 5:08 PM

I can totally understand why the Broncos are so confident.

The first time the two teams met the refs, likely under direct orders from Goodell, blatantly bagged the game for Denver.

Now the league has assigned Ed Hoculi, who has been extremely friendly towards the Broncos in his career, and brutal on the Pats, to officiate the game.

I still think the Pats can win, but to do so they will need to dominate. If it’s a one-score game near the end the refs will steal this one from the Pats. You can count on that. Look for a phantom interference call at a critical juncture of the game.

  63. kcflake says: Jan 20, 2016 5:09 PM

  64. twomadmapper says: Jan 20, 2016 5:11 PM

So all this chatter, back and forth, is just fodder…

What’s really going to matter is who is better prepared, who is better coached and who can capitalize on opportunities…

Think about it, the #1 & #2 AFC seeds playing for the AFC Title…

This is going to be a great game, both are great teams… What an epic way for Peyton to put the cap on his career…

I wish Peyton the best of luck, but know in my heart, that Tawmey is going to walk away with the victory…

Pat’s go onto SB 50… We’re coming for yer Jolly Roger!

Whine & cry. Two skills to be a Pats fan

  66. solo681 says: Jan 20, 2016 5:14 PM

The Broncos must be VERY AFRAID:

    1.) Brady is soft
    2.) Brady cries to Refs
    3.) Gronk pushes off
4.) We will target Gronk’s knees
5.) We are confident with Peyton
6.) Miller is faster then Brady
    7.) ??? = New one everyday

I believe the Broncos realize that they barely beat ( they neede the Refs to help) the Patriots in their house while Edelman, Hightower, Collins, Volmer and others were MIA.

  67. Irsay's Bong says: Jan 20, 2016 5:16 PM

For the record, the Seattle team that beat that high flying Denver team in the SB, was not the same team that played in the SB last year. And that Seattle D was riddled with injuries before that SB game.

Also, NE won the game, but reality was, Seattle should have won that game, and everyone outside of NE recognizes that as fact. Seattle play calling, from the 1 yard line, gave away last years SB to NE. And the play of Seattle as a team in the 2015 season reflected the fact that as a whole they knew they’d given away a SB to NE. Everyone knows it. TB’s face reflected that fact on the sideline before the infamous 2nd down play that was called. But go ahead NE, it was your team of dynasty that won last years SB…in spite of the fact that NE did not win a SB in 10 years. So much for facts.

Seattle should have won that game. To suggest they gave the SB away is a bit of a stretch. You simply don’t get to say that when a team drops a legit 28 points on you. Period. As much as you might like to believe that Kearse catch to setup that goaline attempt was anything but pre-destined. Quite honestly you’re simply not being honest with yourself if you believe there wasn’t luck involved for both teams in that SB. For somebody who pretends to play with facts it’s difficult to understand how you can’t look at the Patriots success and at least not flirt with the notion of a dynasty. The facts more than support the notion regardless of how you personally feel about the SB last year.

Cheaters go down this week- they don’t have the foxborough refs to hand them the win. Last year the cheaters absolutlu lost to Ravens if the game was called properly. Hope that doesn’t happen this year

  97. fetts81 says: Jan 20, 2016 7:29 PM

This game will be over by half time. Pats score TDs not field goals. Pats are mad, the Broncos won’t like the pats when they’re mad. Rodger is handing the trophy to Brady yet again this year

  98. skinnylegspeytonmanning says: Jan 20, 2016 7:31 PM

The only worry the Pats have are the refs.

This is a joke, right? Brady gets more sweetheart calls than anyone in the history of the NFL. Look it up, son!!

The nice thing about playing KC besides winning, NO trash talk from their players. Not much from the fans either. Can’t say the same for Denver. Who knew? Must be the air, or the legal marijunna . That could explain a lot.

“Patriots are 0-3 at Mile High in playoff games.. If anyone is scared its patriot fans.”

    Man you guys are funny…

A sample size of three whole games is large enough for you to proclaim an advantage, but Peyton’s last year+ of performances, along with his epic playoff choke jobs all throughout his career, is irrelevant.

    The cognitive dissonance is staggering….

  101. skinnylegspeytonmanning says: Jan 20, 2016 7:34 PM

According to most national sports media polls, 95% of America is rooting for Peyton Manning. Why is this exactly?

  102. davemc617 says: Jan 20, 2016 7:37 PM

“My gosh. Some of you guys on here, mostly Patriot fans, read anything and consider it a knock on your team. The guy is confident in his playing ability and said they’re confident they can get the job done, while also praising Brady and say it won’t be easy. Yet, as sure as it will snow in New England during the winter, we come on PFT and can be assured that Patriots fans will be whining.”

The trash talk from Denver has been pretty intense since the start of the week.

“Gronk gets away with pushoffs 98% of the time”
    “Brady’s a crybaby”
“Brady is a whiner who begs for flags after every hit”
“You have to target Gronks legs to take him down”

Is it really all that outlandish if this is perceived as more of the same? They’ve certainly earned that reputation the last couple of days…..

Much more productive now compared to the previous years with Paul Tagliabue. Of course he didn’t have favorites or allow cheating.

Patriots SB record under Tagliabue: 3-1
Patriots SB record under Goodell: 1-2

Vonn better hope that he and the D-line can get there in time, if not this game will be over quickly. It would be great for Payton to finish his career (as we know it) with playing in a Super Bowl but I suspect this game ends up with a “Turkey shoot” in a “Phone Booth” and the Bronco’s are the Turkey !!!

  105. RE LEE says: Jan 20, 2016 8:08 PM

You said two seconds? Sometimes I only need one….. Is there a double entendre there somewhere? Gronk had a really good one.

Manning the most over-rated QB ever…..throwing ducks

Im no Pats fan, especially with their Tee-hee annoying trolls
but you may want to let sleeping dogs lie. A ticked off Brady is dangerous…..

He’s good at deflating, so he will deflate the Broncos hopes

Seattle lost the Super Bowl last year. The Patriots won. Seattle got destroyed this year by Carolina. 2 hrs and 45 mins of garbage time. how’s your dynasty? ska and others have devoted the whole year, and the Pats are still standing. Seattle is done.

What’s interesting is why Denver won’t sell tickets to anyone outside of Denver! What are they afraid of? Not enough Denver fans ?
    Disgraceful!

Brady career W/L in Denver 2-6. Both wins came against Kannell and Tebow! Yeah, he’s shaking in his shoes alright!

  113. dsigrey says: Jan 20, 2016 9:12 PM

Lets see, Brady put up 24 points with 3 TDs the last time they met with no Edelman, no Dola and Gronk for half a game ( when he wasnt getting called for bs opi calls ). I don’t think Brady will have any problems with those guys. Ben had a field day throwing to Bryant and some no names.

    ===========

Look, it has been almost a year, it’s really time you check back in with reality.

Pats scored 2 TDS in the 4th quarter to take the lead. Hawks had a chance to take the lead back, a CHANCE to take it back, but the Pats took that chance away. Nobody on the Hawks said “here, you guys take the ball, we don’t want to win”. The fact is they were trying to score, trying to win, and they failed.

It’s as simple as that. It’s time you accept it for what it is.

I’m looking forward to the nationally televised Peyton Manning Retirement Party this Sunday and will watch it with the rest of America, albeit with somewhat of a heavy heart. It’s the culmination of a great career and rivalry with the Patriots and Tom Brady. He was truly difficult to beat in his prime.

  119. veddermn8 says: Jan 20, 2016 11:03 PM

Jesus these Broncos love to talk … shows bad leadership

  120. blackcatnfl says: Jan 20, 2016 11:52 PM

So…the Broncos aren’t actually going to get near Brady all day, are they? Great…

  121. fishyinalittledishy says: Jan 21, 2016 3:43 AM

The Bronco defenders are going to be worn out before the game at this rate. This has got to be the most ridiculous thing i have heard so far. Other than that i can not remember the no.1 seed going into the AFC title game with their first choice QB with no hope of a win. I dont like the Patriots i dont like Brady and i want Denver to beat them, but for the life of me i can not see it happening. The only chance we have of the evil empire not getting their claws on the super bowl is if the Cardinals or Panthers can stop them because the Broncos will trampled on.

  122. ecniner says: Jan 21, 2016 6:12 AM

The headline conveys a different feeling than the actual line where it shows Miller’s response and noting that he laughed about it.

  125. baw409 says: Jan 21, 2016 8:09 AM

Im a Huge Pats Homer , I wish every one would stop over reacting… It really wasnt much of a statement…

Its not like he said he was held on every play.

    or was pushed off on…

Or should take a guy out at the knees…

Those statements mean something, But Millers. Not so much…

  126. dabillshateme says: Jan 21, 2016 8:35 AM

Sorry Pats fans, but I don’t see this as trash talk. The guy said it with a laugh and then went on to say how well they will need to play if they expect to get to Brady.

  127. tylawspick6 says: Jan 21, 2016 9:44 AM

Meanwhile, this turd disappears in games and is so overrated, I can’t even speak.

Without roids, he’s an average player. Terrible against the run, too.

No wonder why he was not resigned.

  128. 8oneanddones says: Jan 21, 2016 10:07 AM

One second? That’s almost superhuman. Von must have finally found a urine sample collector he can work with.
