The Giants are talking about adding some Hall of Fame credentials to their coaching staff.

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, former 49ers head coach Mike Singletary is interviewing for the linebackers coach job with the Giants today.

Singletary has been out of the league since leaving the Vikings after the 2013 season.

He and McAdoo worked together one year with the 49ers (2005), but Singletary has been unable to climb back up the career ladder toward a coordinator job.

Bottom of the barrel along with the eagles.

I wonder if they’ll let him wear his huge Van Helsing’esq cross on the sidelines like he did in San Fran.

Mike’s is a Mans mans, same cant be said for what the bills just did.

Wouldn’t be a bad hire, but he’ll have to recognize that not everyone is a Canton-quality player who sees the game as quickly as he did. His biggest mistake with the 49ers was implying “You have to be as good as me” – a good coach’s mantra should be “You have to be as good as YOU can be”.

With HOF MLB Harry Carson as one of the Giants pre/post/online analysts, he and Singletary could probably tell some war stories for the ages.

“Cannot play with them, cannot win with them, cannot coach them. Can’t do it. I want winners. I want people that want to win.”

    Yikes. Don’t do it.

I hope they give him a high quality belt as a signing bonus.

Great man, great player, great motivator of men, great coach.

He parlayed “coaching” Ray Lewis into a HC position…not many Ray Lewises around these days to make him look good again.

  13. Norseman says: Jan 21, 2016 10:13 AM

He didn’t do much in his tenure w the Vikings. Great player, but not a great coach.

  14. freddsox says: Jan 21, 2016 10:22 AM

It actually went Head coach, position coach, asst. position coach, couch. Vikes brought in a co-linebacker coach his second year there

Best of luck to him but only Tomsula has less coaching cred so pretty sure it will still be couch next year too

A classic ‘been a football fan since 2012’ comment from RegisHawk.

He preaches too much god bs. that can be toxic to some players.

You need to look at what year we live in. It isn’t 1816 big man. Why are you so insecure?

    I guess LT is busy…

Classic lack of valuable contribution by freddsox.

He is most likely better right now than all the linebackers, so he is going to have a tough time. Just ask Reese!

And this coming from a Giants Fan!

  21. ivanpavlov0000 says: Jan 21, 2016 3:40 PM

This is a good role for him. He’s still just as intense as he was as a player. If he can make the Giants LBs that focused and intense they will be a force.

But … coaches can only coach. Players have to play. Need to have players who want to be like Mike.

  22. legalguy60 says: Jan 21, 2016 4:44 PM

I think he would be great !

  23. jomo56 says: Jan 21, 2016 5:17 PM

As a player no one can question Mike’s LB game; but as a coach Mike has shown an inability to relate to players. So now, has Mike reevaluated his purpose and changed from my way or the highway, to I can coach ’em up into a solid unit.
Of course, Reese has to supply the talent and then just maybe this could turn into a good hire.

Great player, nice guy….doesn’t mean he’s a Coach. Me thinks Tomsula is part of the Singletary Coaching Tree.

    Enough said.

  25. kitz626 says: Jan 22, 2016 9:12 PM

I think he is an old school hard nosed coach like every team should have but now days when you hurt anyone’s feelings it is considered bad.

How about interviewing Carl Banks for the job?
