APChip Kelly hasn’t named his new defensive coordinator in San Francisco, but it won’t be the old defensive coordinator.
Eric Mangini has been fired, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports. Mangini served as defensive coordinator last year on Jim Tomsula’s staff after serving as an offensive assistant the previous two years on Jim Harbaugh’s staff.
Now Mangini may struggle to find a new coaching job elsewhere, as his firing comes fairly late in the game after most teams have filled out their staffs. Mangini spent two years out of coaching after he was fired as head coach of the Browns following the 2010 season, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him spend a year out of coaching again.
There’s no word on who Kelly will hire as his new defensive coordinator. Mike Vrabel has already turned the job down, but Kelly presumably has someone else in mind.
Chip Kelly clearly hates white people!
Oh Billy!!!
Chip Dip!
It wouldn’t shock me to see him bring in Billy Davis.
Ah
The rat gets fired
Too bad, Not
Chipper doesn’t really “do” defense.
Would it surprise anyone if Chip delayed the decision on purpose just to jack Mangini for other opportunities?
At least he was able to spend a year under one of the great football minds of our time, James Andrew Tomsula.
mangini will always be considered a RAT to me
Chip Kelly hasn’t changed a bit since being fired by the Eagles. He’s bringing his dysfunction to the Bay area. Good luck 49ers. You asked for it.
That was quick,
King rat.
Things are looking up in 9er land.
Probably did him a favor
I’m not sure this was a bad move…..but it’s going to be fun to see who he gets….Maybe Sarah Palin
Why anyone would hire that rat is beyond me. He should go to college, or high school.
Chip Kelly didn’t fire anybody. Jed York fired Jim Tomsula. It’s not up to the new coach to fire the old assistant coaches. At least not on planet Earth.
had no other choice. Especially after flirting with Vrabel.
A rat was fired? I don’t feel sorry at all. Glad Chip Kelly held out as long as he can till other opportunities were closed up. I bet Belichick had a hand in this. Delay and fire.
We’ll probably promote Jan from accounting to fill out this stellar staff Chip is putting together. The only good to come from Kelly getting hired is the fact that he, Baalke and Kaep will all be gone within the next two years.
Trying to stay positive here but things don’t look good so far.
The attempted Vrabel hiring is the big red flag on Kelly.
No team in the NFL should EVER hire as Defensive Coordinator someone with one year — one!– of coaching experience in his life, and even thats merely as a LB coach.
This ain’t the Arena League. This is the N-F-L, man!
This is not being handled well.
Mike Pettine
He’s going to have to pay somebody a lot of money to be a defensive coordinator under Chip Kelly. That’s career suicide.
I’d prefer Tarver over Billy Davis . . .
juan castell is avalable
“mangini will always be considered a RAT to me”
So he should have let the Patriots continue to cheat?
Well, the Pats still are cheating, so maybe you have a point.
Back to ESPN.
Racist!!
Mangini is not a football guy.
HA!
So much for the “Man-Genius”.
More like “Man-Gina”.
Narc …..
Chip just got rid of the most likely interim Head Coach, if he were to get canned.
So that makes sense.
Gotta look out for #1 😉
I am not a Mangini fan by any means and of course when a new coach comes in he should create the staff he wants but the way this was handled says far more about Kelly than it does about who he fired. Shopping the job and doing interviews while the position was still occupied was scummy. I never had anything against Kelly for any of the ridiculous things said by or about him and the strange roster moves but this definitively shows low character.
he will end up baltimore, Harbaugh is collecting ex-head coachs
Mangini “guided” them to being the 29th ranked defense in the league this year. But that was one spot higher than Chip’s Eagles.

Someone who turns someone else in for something they were themselves doing is a rat. The Jets were also videotaping.
The Jets are bigger cheaters than the Patriots dating back to tampering with Parcells and Martin. The only difference no one cares because they suck.
I’m pretty sure it went down like this:
1. Mangini finds out that his job was offered to Mike Vrabel
2. Mangini storms into Chip’s office and tells him to cut that sheet out. If he doesn’t want him there, then let him go.
3. Chip says, sure…You’re fired! And then puts on a Donald Trump hairpiece.
Belichick and Kelly are long time friends. Correct?
Mangini will be employed in The League in some capacity long after Kelly has returned to college.
Sheattles window well and truly closed. But as usual anything 49ers related they arrive. The Bandwagon rolls up. A few sad, lonely and dejected “fans” fall off. Desperately the search and scramble, looking for reasons to become relevant to 49ers fans. They crave recognition, frantically clawing at any shred of an opportunity to create their chance of a rivalary. A faux rivalry, only outshone be their faux dynasty, but still they cling to this imaginary float. Truth is they have nothing. An empty shell. Their only glow a single Lombardi for their “years of dominance”. They are dark, lonely, sad characters. Craving the Red and Gold reverence, seeking the history of a storied, world wide brand, only to be trodden on and forgotten like the majority of their fellow “followers”. Stolen nickname, stamped on by a school. Their greatest ever players remain unknown to the throng. One day, in an NFL far, far away, they hope to be important. For now they are bitter, pained, denied status. Denied a stage. Denied real fans. They grasp frantically and kneel at the 49er alter of greatness. Dazzled, transfixed, wide eyed at our 5. Unfit for purpose they crawl back to the rain. Loss is tragic. Show pity fellow Faithful. They are worthy of pity at least. Just pity, nothing more. They are worthless.
Warms my heart to see him go. The number of teams needing rats this time of year is dwindling.

Stage 5 of Patriots fans’ defection of cheating: Constantly bring up alleged scandals of other teams from the 1990s that no one has heard about
Chip Kelly is a close friend of Bill Belichick.
Dennis Thurman is going to be available just as soon as Rob Ryan sabotages him in Buffalo. Dennis’ agent needs to get Chip on the phone right now.
Maybe Donald Trump should have gotten the job. After all he seems to know everything about football.
Ah, the douchy and irrationally bitter Pats fans ruin yet another thread.
Kelly is obviously going to coach the defense also
As a well known patriots hater. He will feel right at home back at BSPN
Jim Tomsula is available
Good. The league is a better place without Mangini in it.
So long, rat.
Chip: “Who’s that we’re interviewing?”
Aide: “It’s Glen from the mailroom”
Chip: “Who?”
Aide: “Glen. From the mailroom. He works way downstairs.”
Chip: “Who?”
Aide: “GLEN FROM THE MAILROOM!!”
The toilet is still running in SF for the whole organization…
Now we all have to watch Chip once again get rid of every person on the 49’ers who is a real man and who has the audacity to question anything he does. I predict he’ll be gone after one season.
Say what you want about Mangini, I still think the guy is a good head coach. He was better than Rex, made good personnel decisions, and might have done something if Favre wasn’t forced upon him, or tear his muscle after being forced upon him. He was also good within 2 minutes on both sides of the ball. If you ask me, that is the thing that most coaches that are semi-successful, ahem Bowles, have the most trouble with.
Yes. Hell yes. Chips just doing Belichicks dirty work, and I’m very happy (and biased).
There isn’t a clubhouse or meeting room anywhere in the league large enough to fit the egos of both Kelly and Mangini. Heck, the state of California might not be large enough.
Pass the beer nuts.
EEEEEEEE… Chip Chop!!!
Just wait until Chip figures out who his most talented players are – they will be gone soon.
He did it for Belicheat.
Outhouse explosion in Santa Clara!

Stage 5 of Patriots fans’ defection of cheating: Constantly bring up alleged scandals of other teams from the 1990s that no one has heard about
————————————–
A little history lesson to get you all up to speed on the 1990s scandals. The Jets tampered with Patriots coach Bill Parcells in 1996 as he was taking the Patriots to the Super Bowl. Parcells resigned after the game – a loss to the Packers – and didn’t even return home with the team. When he officially signed with the Jets, the Patriots were awarded four draft picks – a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th. When the Parcells and the Jets stole Curtis Martin a year later, the Patriots were awarded two draft picks – a 1st and a 3rd. When the Patriots wanted to sign Bill Belichick as head coach in 2000, in a sham move Parcells stepped aside to make Belichick head coach of the Jets even though he didn’t want the job. Belichick sued the NFL and eventually got his wish to go to the Patriots in exchange for a 1st round pick and a swap of some lower round picks. And that, boys and girls, is how the Patriots and Jets started hating each other.
.
Chip let Mangini twist in the wind…… Let him think he may survive, and then out came the long knives. Belichick couldn’t have done it much better.

Judging by some of the comments, a lot of posters were not even around then; and are too lazy to do any research on their own.
Completely overrated backstabber. Got two head coaching jobs because he was an understudy of one of the greatest coaches of all time and he threw him under the bus when he couldnt beat him. Mangini deserves to be nothing more than a position coach, IF that.
Regardless of what you think of Belichick or NE, would you want a known backstabbing rat on your staff?
This is why you don’t burn bridges. Mangini is s.o.l. with returning to the Pats.
Chip is gonna bring that dope Billy Davis with him as DC. As an Eagles fan, I feel bad for you 49ers fans. You will see what we learned quickly. Chip is a con artist who ruins your team and refuses to ever take any blame.
He is Barney Rubble, if he was a used car salesman.
I think Niner fans would agree that they need to clean house. Well, now you got your douche.
All of you Pats homers are hysterical. It’s obvious, and Mangini has admitted as much, that he wasn’t trying to turn anyone in…just trying to keep them from taping the Jets.
As for not being able to beat Belichick, the last time they coached head to head, Mangini embarrassed the Pats with the Colt McCoy led Browns.
Mangini did get put in a tough spot this year. Retirements and injuries hampered the lineup and the offense gave them the worst defensive starting field position in the league. Pats fans just don’t ever want to admit that this guy can coach and that is no surprise considering how much more interested they are in being homers rather than knowing anything about football.

Mangini’s defense finished 29th in the league last year. Why would anyone – including Mangini – think that was good enough to keep the job?
If you are ever considering if it would be a good idea to fire a backstabbing low-talent snitch, the answer is always yes.
Pat fans have apparently forgotten ” I hereby resign as HC of the NYJ. BB”
Always classy
He’s got Billy davis eyes
Chip Kelly is close friends with Belichick and Mangini is, well, Judas.
He owes his entire NFL existence to Belichick, yet took a minor infraction (the same infraction that Mangini was guilty of with the Jets, by the way) and blew it up, creating the irrational hysteria that has surrounded it to this day.
Deflategate wouldn’t have even been a thing without Mangini’s actions over the first game of the season in 2007, so you know where this guy ranks with Belichick, the Patriots organization, and the region.
All the silly hate comments aside, as a Hawk fan that loved the rivalry under Harbaugh, the entire 49er organization looks worse every day. This has gone from a dumpster fire to a landfill fire. You know how hard it is to put out 100 acres of old tires.

ypu mean Chip wants to be the only backstabbing rat on that staff
so they fired Harbaugh because he was “difficult” and they hired KELLY????????????????????
49rs may be the most dysfunctional organization in the League–Cleveland fans are grateful
If he does not get a coordinator job he will most likely be a consultant on the Dolphins staff…and that would not be a bad thing for Miami as experience is in short supply.
Here comes Billy. You’ll know him by the sound of Eagles fans laughter following him everywhere.
Floriostouppe your a idiot
And too who ever gave a thumbs up what does that post mean
Decent thing would have been to fire him before offering the job to someone else.
I don’t think Chip is making personnel decisions in SF. For the sake of SF fans, I hope hiring Chip works out for them. But Baalke and York are the same ones that hired Tomsula last year.
I’m sure Chip has a line of people that want to coach a defense that is going to be on the field 3 full games more than an average defense.
I mean, who wants to spend time teaching schemes, fundamentals, match ups, etc, when you can spend all of your time working on conditioning to prepare for the 90 snaps a game you are going to play?
I’m sure the only line that is longer is the line of DB’s that want to run up and down the field 75 times a game, then get blamed when they get burned deep in the 4th quarter on the 78th trip

Pat fans have apparently forgotten ” I hereby resign as HC of the NYJ. BB”
==================================
and you apparently have forgotten or most likely have no knowledge of how that Jets’ HC went down. Besides, what was a bigger disgrace than Parcels making a deal to go to the Jets while he should have been preparing to play the Packers in the SB ( maybe like think about Reggie White) ? There’s just something about that Jets organization…..
To add to parilli15’s good historical post, the Jets ownership was under transition at that time. It was not a sure thing who was going to be the owner when the job was given to him. Also, Belichick would not have full control of the team like he has with the Pats as Parcels would still be involved in the Jets’ day to day operation. A situation that Belichick rightfully thought wasn’t a good deal at all.
Chip will do fine. He’s the perfect coach for building a successful Left Coast offense around Kaepernick and getting him back on track. Will be fun to watch.
That awkward moment when the old crappy coach that everyone briefly considered a “genius” is canned by the new flavor-of-the-month crappy coach that everyone is considering a genius.
SNITCH…..
I hope he goes back to ESPN he was excellent.
How low can your career sink to be fired by Chip Kelly
Is this a bad time to point out that the guy who turned the 49ers down for them to hire Chip Kelley in the first place literally said in his press conference that people were begging to work for him and ended up having people quit other teams to work for him all the while Kelley is getting turned down and having to get coaches from the Bargain bin.
The 49ers have lost to the Browns now twice this year. Good thing they aren’t in the division.

Forgotten it? They probably have it engraved in some place of honor in their houses.
Now Chip needs to finish the house cleaning and get rid of that no talent hack Kaepernick
Little does Mangini know that being fired is a blessing in disguise.
this is normal, new HC comes in with new staff. I think a lot of people are making it more than it really is. We knew that if they wanted Vrabel then Mangini’s term in SF (SC) wouldn’t be long. I’ve heard names like Jason Tarver being mentioned. It just has to be a strong Defense if what everyone is saying is true, that the O will be fast paced. Still holding judgement on Kelly. Now if he starts getting good of great players who are productive, then well…it gets personal. But I will hold off on judgement. I can only get better from Tomsula’s time with the team
Ratatouille, 49er’s style. A dish best served cold to the right person. Too bad his departure wasn’t taped as well so we could all read his signals as he exited the stadium
The rat is sniffing for another piece of cheese. The only takers left are bspn and it’s where this fraud belongs. His camera guy in the stands snitching out the patriots camera man on the sidelines is hilarious. As Parcells was fond of saying you are what your record says you are. A RAT!
“I’ll be bringing my innovative systems to the defensive side of the ball this season” Chip added.
Eric “The Rat” Mangidiot!
The coaching staff did a good job in the opening game, winning against the Vikings. Then, inexplicably, the team stopped doing what it did to win the next game, namely they stopped blitzing and allowed Big Ben to pick the defensive secondary apart. There is no secondary in the league that can be successful with no pass rush of any kind. It is this sort of inexplicable and inconsistent performance that made the Niners a 5-11 team in 2015. They would play well one game, and then the offensive and defensive game plans turned bad another game. The head coach was fired because the front office believes that the Niners are a better team than their record suggests. Obviously the head coach wasn’t the only one who did not do a good job.
I wish people would Shutup with the “THE DRAMA CONTINUES” bs…the man fired a DC who led the 28th ranked defense.
All things being equal, he was on an episode of The Sopranos.
San Fran went from Super Bowl to the best graffiti wall in the NFL in 3 years.
Chip and Mdngini, two east coast guys who think they are smartest jn room, no way they could co exist
Kelly is an egomaniac
Nice to see all these rat/snitch references. Patriot fans finally seem ready to admit the organization was engaging in improper behavior for which they could be ratted out. Better late than never!
Give him 3 years, if he doesn’t turn things around in SF, then he is finished in the NFL.
I was apprehensive at first but with this move, the Chipper has shown some competence. Maybe there is hope for the 49ers after all.
Heard he’s gonna hire jake from state farm
The fat little dictator Chub Tse Tung Kelly strikes again!
There… you see! I knew that Chip Kelly doesn’t like “white guys” either lol
Entering coaches fire members of previous regimes all the time.
Chip Kelly does not walk on water.
He puts his shoes on one at a time just like the rest of us.
He did an awful job in Philadelphia.
His system is a gimmick college system that he proved he couldn’t or wouldn’t or refused to tweak for the pro game.
He relates much better to players playing for educations than grown men playing professional football.
