Reports: Pat Flaherty to coach 49ers OL, Derius Swinton to coach special teams

We reportedly know two new member of 49ers coaching staff and one person who won’t be a part of it.

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that one of the new arrivals is Pat Flaherty. Flaherty was the Giants’ offensive line coach for all 12 years of Tom Coughlin’s time on the sideline in New Jersey and will have the same job in Santa Clara.

Chip Kelly has also reportedly landed a special teams coordinator. Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports Derius Swinton has landed that job after spending last season as an assistant special teams coach for the Bears. Swinton held the same role in Denver during the two previous seasons.

Marvez also reports that Bills assistant head coach/running backs coach Anthony Lynn has withdrawn his name from consideration for a job after interviewing for the offensive coordinator position. That may be a moot point anyway with word that the 49ers are hiring Curtis Modkins for that position.

Anyone who wants to poach special teams coaches from the Bears is welcome to them. The Bears STs were among the worst in the league last year.

    Who are these guys?

As a Cards fan, I’m happy to see the Niners are assembling a staff with all the precision of a barn-raising.

Is it Baake that is making these picks? Some seem pretty random for Chip.

I bet they asked Tom Caughlin a few questions about Pat Flaherty.

Filmex, with the exception of the Eagles’ strength and conditioning Marine, you could pretty much say exactly the same thing about the staff Chip assembled in Philly; no rhyme or reason. And it took him a LONG time to put it together, too.

People don’t want to work with this guy.
