Russ Grimm, Andre Roberts AP

The Titans will hire veteran coach Russ Grimm to coach their offensive line, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reported Friday.

A Hall of Fame guard for the Redskins, Grimm has not coached since 2012. He was most recently assistant head coach and offensive line coach for the Cardinals.

He has 21 seasons of coaching experience with the Steelers and Cardinals. Grimm worked with Titans head coach Mike Mularkey in Pittsburgh.

Grimm is 56. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010.

I was just wondering the other day what had happened to him. IIRC those Cardinals OLs were pretty bad while he was there but maybe that was a talent thing.

Remember when he lost a HC oppourtunity due the the Rooney Rule.

Maybe hiring some old school coaches will change the culture around Baptist Sports Park.

Another retread picked up by the Titans.

Titans prepping for their own ‘walrus’ style pear shaped loser era.

And the gain of Grimm is a loss for Tennessee.

They let two former Arizona coaches go. Why hire another when you will fire him later?

I wonder if he’ll wear the same bad sweater he wore for his ‘interview’ press conference with the Bears…DOH!!

With Munchak gone, I’m glad to see a real OLine guy in the fray. The Titans have talent, they need a coach who knows the discipline and can toughen up Lewan and Warmack. Those big boys can use a lesson from a Hog.

Had to be a funny phone call. Kinda like the scene from Major League..

Hey Russ, how about coaching the OL with the Titans?

Uhhhhh…. I don’t know… I got a guy on the other line about some white walls. I’ll have to call you back.

Lewan & Warmack are just find, it’s the rest of them that suck. Draft Laremy Tunsil #1 & move Lewan to RT. O-line fixed!

As a Cardinals fan since 1997, I can assure that it was more like a “GM is too dumb to recognize talented O-linemen and actually sign them” thing.

You know, the way the Cardinals franchise operated until they decided to hire Steve Keim. Keim has basically signed a new O-lineman or two every year, and guess what – the O-line is pretty good now!

It’s amazing that anyone would ever, ever hire Rod Graves. Note that after he was fired, the Jets immediately hired him, only to fire him a year later.

As a member of the Washington Redskins Hogs, you might want to consider that he knows a “little” about how an offensive line is supposed to work.

Anything related to those Whisenhunt years here in AZ should have been quarantined then burnt… Russ has been terrible everywhere…. In name only got him where he is and was

Hasn’t coached since 2012! Wow, must be good 😥 I guess we are lucky to get him.

    Run, Marcus run!

It will be interesting to see smash-mouth football in Tennessee. It’s actually not a bad idea to have a run-first mentality with a young, inexperienced QB. It will take some pressure off Mariota as he develops. Of course, they need the players for it.

As a Steelers fan I’d say Tomlin has made some boneheaded moves and I am a perpetual critic of his, but I have a hard time imagining Grimm would have been a better head coach. So anyone who says that Grimm got “robbed” because of the Rooney Rule is an idiot. The Rooneys hired the guy who seemed like he would have the most success, and he has. Definitely more than Wisenhunt. End of story.
