Firing his special teams coach was one of Bill O’Brien’s first offseason moves, and he’s dipped back into his Patriots past to fill the job.

The Texans announced they had hired Larry Izzo as special teams coordinator, along with Sean Ryan as wide receivers coach and the previously reported Anthony Weaver as defensive line coach.

Izzo was one of the top special teams players in the league for the Patriots in the early 2000s, earning three Pro Bowl appearances along with three Super Bowl rings.

O’Brien was an assistant in New England during Izzo’s final two years as a player.

For the last five years, Izzo was an assistant special teams coach with the Giants. Ryan was also on Tom Coughlin’s staff there, alternating between coaching quarterbacks and wide receivers.
