Derek Wolfe hates (and respects) the Patriots

Derek Wolfe AP

Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe said this week that he hates the Patriots, which created plenty of headlines suggesting that Wolfe was talking trash about Sunday’s opponent.

In reality, Wolfe made clear that what he hates about the Patriots is how good they are. And that’s what he respects about the Patriots as well.

“I hate everything about them,” Wolfe said, via the Denver Post. “They’re always in my way. They’re always in my way to get what I want. I’ve got a ton of respect for the whole organization. They’ve got great players — Tom Brady’s a great player. Bill Belichick’s a great coach. I’ve got a ton of respect for them. I just hate them.”

So although the Broncos have made some noise this week, calling Brady a crybaby and talking about hitting Rob Gronkowski low, there’s little doubt that their hatred for their opponent is rooted in respect for the Patriots’ accomplishments.

Wolfe knows the Pats should be respected. He understands how a head coach can take average coaches and average players to get them to preform as a TEAM.
No other team in history can claim the run of division wins and title’s as well as their post season record.
If you can’t respect the complete franchise for that then you are a sore loser.
I have been a football fan for 47 years and have seen a lot of greatness rise and fall.
As a Pats fan I ubderstand it will aventualy come to an end. I have never seen a coach run a team like this it has been a great run.
    GO PATS.

Yet it’s always the Patriots who are portrayed as the Darth Vader’s and Emperor Palpatine’s of the NFL universe.

Denver has the most cheats on record for any team in the nfl

    12 PED suspensions since 2003
Salary cap cheating 1996-98, Elway, once a cheat always a cheat, right Pats haters ?
Slimegate putting vaseline on their arms
    Radiogate 1995-2008
    Peytongate, tampering to get Manning
Injurygate 1998 and 1999, lying about injury reports
    Crampgate 2015

Brady, Manning past 10 years in AFC Championship game.

Manning 2-0 over the so called “goat.”

’07 38-34 after a 32 point comeback win over Brady

’13 26-16 in Denver, after Denver’s offense rewrote the NFL record books for offensive production that season.

So much for “never being in NE’s way.”

Belichick and Brady are 11-5 vs. Manning, and that’s when Manning was one of the best.

Way to cherrypick a measley two games as if that is any kind of sample size at all.

Meanwhile Bill Belichick has a .500 record or better against every team in the AFC. Fact. Playoffs included.

Brady has more post season wins than any other qb in history. Fact.

And of course head to head it is 11-5 in Brady’s favor over manning. Fact.

Keep cherry picking. Its all you got. The GOAT is sending Peyton to retirement tomorrow.

  53. bleck5 says: Jan 23, 2016 3:26 PM

Interesting thing…Manning has actually never beaten the Belichick/Brady Patriots when they’re at full strength.

All of Manning’s wins over the Pats have come when the Patriots were severely short handed.

    I find that interesting.

  56. thecape15 says: Jan 23, 2016 4:43 PM

I understand and respect this. Unlike the haters.

As Boston fans, we all remember hating the Yankees, Candiens, Lakers, depending on our age. All because they were so darned good and kept beating our team.

If the haters would say they hate us because we are great, I would respect them too.

    But no…

PS: Dear haters- years ago, teams thought the Boston Gatden had ‘dead spots’ on the floor. Only the Celtics knew where they were. And that’s why they won game after game. Silly, isn’t it?

Yes gone to four superbowls and lost all four in rather pathetic fashion. Two were embarassing blowouts which made your franchise resort to cheating the cap so they would not have the most superbowl losses in the NFL. Which didnt matter as Seattle delivered your karma and gave you a third blowout and a fifth loss.

To date no team has lost more Superbowls than the Broncos. Not even the Bills.

Also the Pats have four Lombardi trophies. The Broncos only have two after cheating the cap. While the Pats are also the second most valuable franchise in the league and gaining major leverage to the point where they will be number one soon.

Enjoy the fact that your franchise will never be successful and tomorrow will be your last game of your lucky season

I’m sure Bill will complain about cheap shots or something even though his team runs more illegal picks on offense then any team in the league. Get ready Tommy Boy your horrible record in Denver will continue. 6-8 all-time. 2-6 in Denver and 0-2 in playoffs in Denver. Somehow Pats fans always leave out those stats.

Doing my best ‘Colombo’ impression (you young guys google that). I’m confused.

Wolfe appears at a REQUIRED press conference. He gets asked how he feels about his upcoming opponent. He answers with complimentary (and seemingly sincere) comments about the quarterback, the coach and the entire organization. Very nice comments (and true ones).

And you Pat fans call him out that the Broncos are ‘talking trash too much’ (look above, required presser). And he’s a jerk and he’s going to get blown out, etc.

Tell me what exactly you would write if he had not expressed his admiration for NE??

SMDH. This is friggin’ nuts. Do you people actually read these articles before posting your comments?

It is really amazing how many frustrated fans there are from teams other than the Pats and Bronco’s who vent said frustrations on stories like this. Last time I looked, the Seahawks, lost and are out of the playoffs. Too bad, because the Pats wanted to put you out of your misery again. If Denver wins, which I doubt, I will congratulate them for being the better team. That’s what reasonable people do. Am I getting through to you 12th children?

  73. RE LEE says: Jan 23, 2016 8:47 PM

The whinnying Broncos… They just won’t shut up. Except for Gronk who teased them, the Pats are quiet and give their team the proper respect.
This guy… The Pats gets in his way? They had their chance for a SB win against the Seahawks but they crumbled. Of course it’s Patriots fault?
The Pats are hobbled by injuries yet they still make these guys cluck like biddies. Kubiak is just like Rex. He lets his players run their mouths. Gives them confidence, I guess…
Losers and haters are at their wits end. The Patriots are still alive and kicking. Edelman back with Danny and Gronk. That must really gnaw your poor souls…
