The Lions will hire David Walker as their running backs coach, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reported Saturday.

Walker has history with Lions coach Jim Caldwell. He was the Colts running backs coach from 2011-14.

He’ll replace Curtis Modkins, who left the Lions earlier this week to become offensive coordinator with the 49ers. Modkins had spent three seasons with the Lions.

Walker, 46, was a college coach for 15 years before joining the Colts. With the Lions he’ll be charged with jumpstarting a running backs group that averaged a league-low 83.4 rushing yards per game last season.

Hope this guy can help the running game. When he was with the Colts they averaged 4.0 ypc despite having some pretty pedestrian backs.

I’d rent if I were him in one of those month to month places. Here we go 0-5! They can’t run without a line anyways. Hope he teaches them how to get a decent contract with their next team or bulks them up to plug the holes in the line. Like 275lbs should be perfect.

Coached RBs during the Colt’s 2-14 season and was out of football last season. Interpret as you choose.

that’s more a reflection of poor Indy RB’s and OL than poor coaching. You can put lipstick on a pig but…

All I know is the Colts had no QB that year as manning was getting the nuts and bolts in his neck tightened up. The Colts still averaged 4.2 yards per carry even though the opposing defense knew what was coming.

No doubt, those were some bad years under Caldwell and maybe there were reasons unrelated to football that kept him out of the league last season, but, on paper, this isn’t a reunion to get excited about. Maybe he will be a better fit in Cooter’s system.

Y’all are talking about Caldwell and his staff like they’re gonna be around for a while. Now THAT’S funny lolol..

He’s a running backs coach, don’t get too worked about it Lions fans…This signing will not make or break the season, the only reason this news has a write up is its the off season for all but 4 teams…..

Hyzers is hiring a new psychiatrist to help him with his delusional thoughts about the Lions being a contending team.

He did wonders for the Colts with Trent Richardson.
