Dolphins hire former CFL head coach Danny Barrett as RB coach

The Dolphins have added a former head coach to Adam Gase’s roster of assistants.

It’s not a former NFL head coach, though. According to multiple reports, former Saskatchewan Roughriders coach Danny Barrett will be the team’s running backs coach.

Barrett spent seven years as the coach in Saskatchewan after a long career as a quarterback in the Canadian league. He moved into college coaching after leaving the Roughriders in 2006 and spent the last five years at UCF, where he wrapped up the 2015 season as the interim head coach after George O’Leary was dismissed.

The Dolphins were 23rd in the league in rushing yards during the 2015 season and often heard criticism for their usage of Lamar Miller. Miller is set to be a free agent this offseason and expressed dissatisfaction with his role on the team more than once as the season wound down.

This is a sneaky good pick up. Guys play hard for him.

A prime example of how bad the coaching has been for this team. The dolphins are undefeated when Miller gets 20 or more carries a game, the fact that philbin and cambell failed to adjust and play for time of possession, which would have helped T hill and the defense, is criminal. The coaches have failed this team.

Gase seems to be assembling a pretty good coaching staff. If they can address the o-line (please ship Dallas Thomas far far away) and plug in a few playmakers on defense, they will be better than expected.

Philbin’s motto was run my system and if it fails the players made mistakes or mental errors. Gase is saying he will do the opposite, find a system that maximizes the talents of the player to put them in a position to succeed. No wonder why Lamar was unhappy.

Only 2 teams make it to the Super Bowl, and one team wins, its way to much to expect the Dolphins to get there in year one of the new head coach rule, at least 3 years will be the best that we can expect from the changes that are to be made. Bill

True Miller didn’t get used the way he should however 20 plus carries a game sure as hell wasn’t fixing that O-Line in passing situations

That’s funny because I would say the same with Jason Fox. I don’t claim to much about the game and maybe I am wrong here but sometimes it looked like he wasn’t even there.

His motivational tactics (us against the system) won’t work in the NFL.. Not a good guy

Ron Rivera to my knowledge was not a head coach before Panthers,it gives hope that it can be done so i’m willing to give Gase a chance..Can’t be worse than Cameron Sparno or Philbin
